“A Hotel I will never forget”
Our suite was beautiful. A great mixture of old open structures and clean modern beauty. The ceiling, floors, bathroom and flower arrangements were superb. However, there were problems. There was no disclosure that to reach the hotel you had to climb five flights of stairs with no elevator. Or that they had no personnel to assist you with your luggage. We asked for help and the owner offered and did carry our suitcases up the stairs. There were no places to put our suitcases in order to open them. We had to use the two couches in the room. The maids that made our room the first day simply grabbed my open suitcase, closed it with no respect for its contents, and deposited it on the floor, next to the couch. Needles to say I needed my open suitcase more than I did the couch. There were no drawers in the room. A wardrobe was suitable for hanging some clothes but that was not the greater part of what we carried. So, most of our clothes remained in the open suitcases. The nightstands were beautiful tables with no drawers and the desk in the corner had six drawers glued shut that could not be opened. In the bathroom the tub had flower arrangements where you are supposed to rest your head. The toilette was so close to the glass enclosed shower that you hit your head in the glass every time you sat in the toilette. There was no space to put your toiletries and the trash can under the sink had a lid you had to remove by hand every time you wanted to trash something.
“Great location (but hard to find ) Comfortable rooms... but bad customer service”
The location of the B&B (it is not a hotel ) is great. Very close to the Duomo, but it was very hard to find since theres no big sign of the hotel. it is right across from a asian market (if that helps) . We booked the triple room, thinking it is the suite, but it is actually not; according to the recpetionist, it is just a "larger" room...Room is big and clean with a big walk in shower , very nice. However, we were extremely disappointed because their poor customer service. We arrived Sunday, and have requested the front desk to reserve us tickets to both Uffizi and the Academy Gallery , and the receptionist ( which i felt she was just part time there or something ) said she cannot get the tickets since it's Sunday but she will make sure we get the tickets on Tuesday and she even wrote it down in front of me on our reservation papers. On Tuesday when i show up at the front desk , the receptionist (a different girl) said she knew nothing about that and it is impossible to get tickets on the same day, I told her the other girl wrote it down and said she will make sure we have tickets. I even pointed it to her where the note is on our reservation paper. But the receptionist just simply said " no..sorry" ...so we couldnt go neither places coz the line was too long. VERY VERY disappointed!!! but other than that , i would recommend this B&B for good location and good rooms, but please reserve tickets before you arrive and NEVER depend on their customer service !!!
“If I had Only Known”
Make sure you have the exact address, you'll understand when you pull up at the door on this quiet side street. Even the cabbie was surprised. There is only a small sign and buzzer-door (after hours) for entry. Once you enter you'll need to take the wide stone staircase to the second floor - no elevator, no services other than receptionist, and the climb is four flights of 18 steps each to reach the 2nd floor - not pleasant with our four suitcases. Inside, the building itself is impressive - restored 1500's stone bldg. But Pallazzo Galletti occupies only the second floor of the 3-story building. Don't be fooled by their website as we were - read the fine print - the luxurious pool and spa pictured are not affilitated with the hotel - services are pay as you go. We also found the receptionists to be severely lacking in English and of little or no help with information. For instance, they claim they did not receive my fax requesting ticket reservations for Affizzi and Duomo, then the next day I saw the cover page at the desk. On the bright side, the room was spacious with an 18 foot cathedral cieling with a mural, and the bathroom was superb. All the rooms seem to have a balcony overlooking the inner buildings - quiet and relaxing. This was well-used as the owners also own a farm (vineyard) and provide a bottle of their own Chianti in the room, replenished as needed - good price-value at 10Euro. While only a couple of blocks from Duomo you have no views from the rooms.
“Trendy Apartment style diggs in Florence”
The Name MSN Suites is VERY misleading. Thought this was going to be a hotel but it was not. It was actually very cool. Although it looks like you may be staying in a less then desireable hotel you are actually feeling as though you have a small apartment in florence. the staff was very nice but BRING SOAP & SHAMPOO, for some reason they don't like to reload those for you. the breakfast is very good and the staff is very helpful. It was cool having a place extremely close to everything and in an old building. Really enjoyed it after the initial shock of no hotel front! would stay there again for sure.
“Charming B&B in perfect location with great breakfast.”
We were met by an extremely friendly and helpful young lady at the front desk. There had been some confusion with our reservation with Expedia, so they put us in the suite to make up for any inconvenience to us. we loved our room, it was charming, extremely large for Florence, beautifully decorated with extremely well done murals on the wall, and the bathroom was large, new and charming. We had a balcony that looked out over a quiet and private courtyard. It was only a few blocks from the Duomo, museums and shopping and restaurants. It was the most charming and largest hotel room we had while we were in Italy for 2 weeks. The breakfast was also the best with a large assortment of fresh fruits, eggs, meats and cheeses, bread and cereal, fresh squeezed orange juice. The air conditioner worked well and we were very comfortable. I would choose to stay there again and would request the same room. The building and the room were very clean and modernized. There was access to spa services which we did not use, but will if we go back.
“Friendly Italy!”
This hotel is not handicapped-accessible, but that might be the only drawback. The room (actually a small suite) was attractive and bright, with very high, frescoed ceilings. The shower worked well, and the room was on the end and basically quiet, except for the church bells, which we didn't mind at all. The location was great: right downtown in Florence. We walked to everything, and felt a safe and friendly vibe. Restaurants were reasonable, and lines to major attractions were not bad. I wouldn't want to drive in Florence, but remember that, to walk everywhere, you should be in decent physical shape. We were--good thing, because my wife wore a pedometer, which registered 7-8 miles daily. I guess one of the keys to success in traveling here is to prepare. We read internet reviews, suggestions for places to visit, and we possessed several guidebooks. The roughest portion of the trip was being ratcheted into tight Air France seats for eight hours, Detroit/Paris/Paris/Detroit. But we loved Italy, Florence, Italians, Renaissance art, and our hotel. No regrets!
