“Close to airport”

Helpful staff - great apartment - good value for money.

Area recommendations
Try the quieter piazzas over the bridge in Florence for great authentic restaurants at reasonable prices e.g. Piazza de Passera.
When to go
May
Getting around
Rent a car with GPS.
What to pack
Hair conditioner - Italian hotels do not provide.
Must see
Climb the tower at the Duomo - fantastic view and worth the climb. Market at San Lorenzo. Michaelangelo's David - buy your tickets at the bookstore just along from the entrance for a few Euros more - worth it to avoid a long wait.

“Gross”

I did not like this hotel at all. My brother and I were actually given an upgraded room when we arrived and we were really excited up until we saw the room. It was FILTHY. I was actually scared to put my bare feet on the floor or in the shower and I am not usually squeemish about that sort of thiing. There were bugs all over the room as well. I came away with bug bites and my brother complained that his legs itched until we left and then the itching miraculously stopped. There was a hole, literally a giant hole in the shower doors that I mentioned to the staff more than once and another hole by the window in the bathroom. The bed was hard as a rock. The neighborhood is more than a little iffy, especially at night. There are actually metal gates on the patio doors on the bottom floor to keep people out. The hotel will attempt to charge you ridiculous amounts for any sort of cleaning service, so don't ask. The only good things I have to say about this hotel is that the reception staff was mostly very nice and it was easy to get to the city center by bus. However, ultimately I don't think the bug bites, lack of hygienic conditions and discomfort were worth it.

Area recommendations
Anywhere in central Florence in the main part of the city.

“Very clean and accomodating”

I only stayed for a night and had to be close to the airport which made Quadra ideal, booked at a very good rate, well below published cost through Expedia Not the closest to downtown Florence, but a doable walk, and plenty of restaurants in the area if you are just looking for a place to eat.

“good option close to airport”

Built as an extended stay type place with mini kitchens, nice for us with a toddler. Nice too that there is a small grocery store right next door. Location key for a one night stay, left early for airport next morning. Kitchen was well equipped, bed was fine, only issue was bathroom floor seemed a little dirty once water was spilled on it. Didn't try breakfast.

Area recommendations
Altrarno, just away from the touristy craziness!

“Convenient to airport”

The helpful staff greeted us warmly and provided information about the local bus service and tickets to the old section of Florence and Fiesole. The surrounding area seemed safe and a convenient small market was adjacent to the hotel for buying food for our meals to cook in the kitchenette, which was well stocked with equipment. There is also a coffee bar next to the hotel. Comfortable beds, very clean overall. Quiet. Would definitely stay again for a quick exit to the airport.

When to go
We definitely hit Florence at a high-tourist time, late August, early September. We had no choice in our dates, but would choose shoulder season if possible. In order to see the major sites and have time to absorb some local culture, allow 4-5 days.
Getting around
Florence is an easy city to see on foot or by public transport. The bus system is easy and inexpensive. Taxi service is prompt and fares are controlled.
Other
We rented an apartment for 4 nights and found it to be as economical as a hotel. We were able to shop at the local markets and cook some of our meals. Also, an apartment offers more living space.

“Good location for overnight stay before going to the airport”

We chose this hotel for an overnight stay because it was relatively close to the airport (less than 10 minutes by taxi), and we had a very early morning flight the next day. The hotel was clean but somewhat spartan, but it served our purposes fully. I wouldn't recommend it if you were wanting to stay somewhere special or closer to the heart of Florence. The people working there were very nice and helpful though.

Area recommendations
We actually stayed out of Florence several miles on the grounds (guesthouse) of an old castle called Montegufoni. It was a pretty place to stay, and since we had a rental car, it was easy to get to, but would not be without a car. I would not know otherwise what area/neighborhood in Florence to recommend to other travelers. I would think that something more convenient to the heart of the city (closer to Accademia or Uffizi, for example) would be better for those without a car. You can always take a train or a bus to outlying other areas or towns.
What to pack
We were in Florence and Tuscany area in mid-March. This is the second time that I have been in this area at this time of year. The weather was similar both times. Be sure to prepare for cool/cold weather, just in case. I had my long leather coat, gloves, scarves, etc. and was glad of it. You can always "shed" these things as the day goes on and maybe gets warmer! Comfortable shoes are a must!! Be sure you take a converter/adaptor for your electrical needs.
Must see
Be sure that you go to the Accademia to see the statue David by Michelangelo, and also to the Uffizi Gallery to view not only the building by all of the marvelous paintings. Depending on the time of year that you go, you might want to have reservations ahead of time to avoid long lines.

“Great People, Substandard Hotel and Not What We Expected”

The people were very helpful but it seemed to be almost "hostile-like", catering to college students and more dorm-like than 4-star hotel. I brought my 70 year old mom for her birthday and thought we were closer to the city center than we actually were. There wasn't much to do in walking distance and cab fare from the hotel cost, on average, 15 euro. The staff was very helpful and the room was spotless, the location is on a busy street so very noisy and room was energy efficient therefore not allowing the heat to go very high and room was very cold (temps ran at night in the 20's-30's and max heat in the room was in the 60's). I would recommend the place for cleanliness and an economical place to stay.

Area recommendations
Stay closer to the City Center, near the Duomo. The outskirts don't offer much and everything closes early.

“Very miserable hotel”

My wife and I are very easy travelers; by this I mean nothing much bothers us and we laugh at the complaints of others when they go abroad. We stayed three nights at Quadra Key residence in Florence and it nearly ruined our trip. Our room was right off the main road, so the noise outside was overwhelming. I travel with earplugs just in case of this, but this was the first time they were ever needed. The room was absolutely freezing *stayed in February*, and while we left the heating unit *which is on the ceiling of all places* on all night, we had to sleep in our clothes to keep warm. The temp matches our home in Oregon exactly so it's not like we were not used to cold weather. By the third night we had had enough and complained about not having heat. They offered to charge me to rent a space heater! I refused and they ended up giving it for free, but not with a good attitude. The tile floor was frozen solid and so cold you couldn't be barefoot at any time. I had to fix technical problems myself, like the wall ethernet jack being broken, which I had to remount for them. The internet in Italy is equivalent to a 14,400 baud dial-up from 1993 in the US, but who cares really. I don't go on vacation to update facebook! The front desk staff was friendly but not helpful. The do not disturb sign on the door was ignored completely. The neighborhood is really run down and rather sketchy at night. The bus does run right out front however, so that made getting around very easy.

“Great apartment”

we were very pleased and happy with the 2 bedroom apartment. It was spacious, clean and had every convenience. The price was right. Although the apartment was not in the center of Florence, the bus was close by. It would have been ideal if the apartment was closer to the city center but it is close to the airport. All in all, we were extremely pleased.

Area recommendations
If you are traveling with a large group, 4 or more and need 2 bedrooms, this is ideal. The only drawback is the location. If you want to step out of your hotel and be in the middle of the city, then this is too far. However,if you don't mind then the bus ride is convenient and easy.
Getting there
If you get a flight to Florence, it is really easy because the airport is small and easy to navigate.
