“Loved the staff.”

I stayed at the San Gallo Palace in early July 2010. The hotel was well maintained. The bathroom was OK (only half of the shower is covered with plastic/glass so after a shower, the bathroom could get very wet). The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was decent (about 25 min walk to major attractions, just far enough away to avoid the hordes of tourists at night). I would consider staying there again and highly recommend it to others.

“Great Hotel at an extremely reasonable price”

I would recommend to anyone who wants to spend a few days in Firenze. I have been living there for many years and actually I got graduated too. Going back, it was a great surprise to find this new ( four years old ) Hotel close to Piazza della Liberta', extremely easy to reach and with great solutions for room, breakfast and parking. Please consider that being it outside of the limits of the historical town, you do not need any special permit to reach it. But you're at a waling distance from Piazza del Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio ( 10 minutes walking )

Area recommendations

On top of the very center, I recommend to walk on the hills behind Palazzo Pitti. There is a gorgeous tiny street ( Vicolo San Leonardo ) that reaches the Palazzo Belevedere ( closed in 2010 ), from the left side of Palazzo Pitti. And from there, you can walk to Piazzale Michelangelo. And of course Fiesole and its view of the enitre town.

“Par excellence; nothing less!”

We had just ended a six week tour of Italy and needed a place to re-pack as well as to gather our sagging spirits and scattered wits. We stayed two days at the San Gallo and the experience was glorious. Huge, immaculate and beautifully color-coordinated rooms. Lovely furniture and well-equipped spacious bathrooms. A plentiful supply of hot water and toiletries. Excellent bedding. A happy, gracious and helpful staff. Am I using superlatives to describe this peaceful haven and its staff? Yes! Absolutely! Our stay there was nothing short of a joyous experience. We send our profound aloha to all of them and will never forget the experience.

The very best in accommodations for a very reasonable price. Easy walking access to all Florentine highlights. Wonderful restaurants nearby.

“Great Hotel”

To start, the hotel is beautifull, and the rooms are big, also our room had a great terrace a very nice bathroom, everything was neatly clean. The Hot Breakfast was awesome. too I will definetely go back to this hotel.

“Very nice hotel!”

My fiance and I very much enjoyed our stay at San Gallo Palace. The room was spacious and attractive, with a flat screen TV and full-size bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom--the shower door only covers half of the shower--I have never seen this before and could not keep from getting water everywhere. But it was great otherwise and the closest thing to "luxury" accommodations we had in Italy. The staff was accommodating to our needs but not particularly friendly or overly helpful (well, in truth, one or two people were quite nice and one or two were not). The location is decent--it's safe but not particularly convenient to most attractions--perfectly fine if you don't mind walking a ways, taking cabs or figuring out the bus system (probably worth it if you get a good room rate as we did).

There is a restaurant called Perseus one or two blocks from the hotel--it's great!

“great value”

Great hotel. Staff was helpful and gave good advice for area restaurants and activities. Only setback was it was about a 20 minute walk to the city center. By the end of the day after walking from morning to evening the last thing we wanted to do was walk back to the city center for dinner. Of course we were being cheap, we could have taken a cab! Of all the hotels we stayed at in Italy we were most impressed with San Gallo's ammenities and staff. The included breakfast was excellent as well. For the price we paid it was a definate deal. The walk to and from city center was worth the money we saved. We would have paid a lot more had we stayed closer in.

Traveler's tip

Restaurant just about one or two blocks from the hotel, in the other direction from city center, named Alfred's. Very good dishes, the soup was delicious. Don't expect service with a smile, but I think that's a very rare thing at any restaurant in Italy.
