A nice, relaxing spot in Florence

Posted May 11, 2014
Pros: The owners are extremely pleasant and helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay very enjoyable. It has a quiet and restful atmosphere.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: The Palazzo Pitti with its museums and the Boboli gardens are close and there are a number of excellent small restaurants on the way to Porte Romana.
Sangaggio was a wonderful welcome to Florence. The owners are friendly and went out of their way with helping us with suggestions and bookings. The breakfast was delicious with a variety of cheeses and home-made deserts. It's half a mile to Porto Romana (cf. Inferno) and the walk through the Boboli Gardens was a nice start to our tour followed by cappuccinos at the Palazzo Pitti. There is a close bus stop which quickly takes you to the main train-and-bus station; however, each day we walked into Florence, getting up early in the morning to enjoy the fresh air and crossing the Arno on the decorative Ponte Vecchio. Our room window looked toward the city but we were too far away to be disturbed by the noise. Breakfast was either inside or outside on a quiet porch. We spent a few nights outside just reading and watching the fireflies.

The most helpful hotel in Florence!

Posted Jun 2, 2013
Pros: Great hospitality, yummy food and a good location.
Cons: Not a lot of storage available in the room, no cabinets in the bathroom.
Location: A quiet location up a hill with a marvellous view, away from the crowds but still an easy walk into the city. Plenty of authentic Tuscan food nearby.
Flaminia was an extremely helpful host, who went out of her way to make our stay an easy and enjoyable experience. On the first day we received a personalised map showing the highlights of the city and good value local restaurants off the tourist trail (the Ponte Vecchio is less than 20 minutes walk). Flaminia also booked us tickets in advance for the Uffizi and Accademia galleries to let us beat the notorious queues. Breakfast was first rate, with freshly made cakes, pastries and cappucinos every morning on the garden terrace! Our second-floor room had an unbelievable view over Florence, which you wouldn't find in any city centre hotel - and this is thanks to the B&B's location, a short walk outside the city. Thanks to all at San Gaggio house for looking after us so well :)
