“Nice place to stay in Florence”
Located too far from downtown to walk, so plan to take a taxi. In a nice neighborhood, though--mostly residential. Breakfast buffet was okay, but small selection of mostly breads. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant one night and it was excellent. Patio and sitting rooms made it a nice place to relax.
“Great Villa! Great Neighborhood”
This was a wonderful Hotel. The staff was very helpful. The breakfast was just what you needed for a start to your day. The area surrounding the Hotel was beautiful, right next to the Pitti Gardens. A short walk to the bus stops and a super market once you know where to look. Overall very pleasant for the price.
“Good value”
As we went to Florence by car, parking was free which is really advantage. To get centro storico, it is easy to use a bus or on foot.
“it is a good hotel for people who love nature”
it is located in a very green area surrounded by great vegetation,
“Enjoyable retreat in a nice neighborhood”
Very nice setting in a quiet neighborhood. Older hotel, but well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. Good, complimentary breakfasts. We also had an excellent dinner at their restaurant. Relaxing courtyard.
“A barely acceptable 3 star hotel but definitely not 4 star”
I did not enjoy my stay at the Carlotta, but will list both positive and negative points. Positive: Rooms were more spacious then I expected, as the Carlotta had turned two little rooms into one larger. The room was very clean and had two small bathrooms with small showers. The towels and linens were wonderful. Staff was courteous and responsive. Negative: There was no real closet, just a small cabinet with a rack that was too high for 5' me to reach when standing on a chair. The walls were paper thin ( I could even hear my next door neighbor urinate). The on-site restaurant was awful--bad wine, tasteless salad, and overheated food (I'm guessing the entrees were microwaved but don't know for sure). There were a few small grocery shops and a small pizzeria about a 10 minute walk away. The Carlotta is about a 20 minute walk from the historic center, not too bad if you aren't already foot sore and if you don't want to come back in the afternoon for a pre-evening siesta. We walked to and fro at the beginning of the trip but got too foot sore, so we started using the taxis. The sidewalks and roads are sometimes cobbled and almost always uneven, so walkers with stability issues should be careful. All in all, I think the Carlotta would be better rated as a 3 star hotel. It definitely didn't match up to the 4 star hotels that I visited in other European cities.
