Beautiful place but hidden fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: The central location was great! We also loved the Dolphin Encounter.
Cons: They need to let people know about the $200 a day fee!
Location: The location is beautiful and its easy to make it a day excursion to anywhere in the Keys!
First of all it we did enjoy our stay but ONLY after we got checked in. We did know about the $35 a day resort fee but we had no clue about the $200 a day fee that has to be on a credit card for what you "may use at the resort". After arguing and finally agreeing to a $100 credit, and giving them a credit card to place $50 on (btw we got it all back because we staid in a villa and NOT the resort because it we used the full kitchen in the villa) we were told we were upgraded to a marina villa from a sunset villa. We were early and the told us we would get a call when it was ready closer to 4pm (check-in). We never got a call and after we came back closer to 5pm we were told that we were moved back into a sunset villa and not the upgrade because the upgrade was down for repairs. NOT OK!!!!!!!! I had been up since 2am so we could get to the airport. I just wanted to rest. After another 35 minute argument we were finally got the upgrade and it was nice. We never used anything but the pool once and we swam in the salt water pool every night! We were in love! The view was great, the villa was quiet, and the villa offered everything we needed but we did have to get inventive with the very basic cooking utensils. Saved a ton of $$$$ buy cooking for ourselves. The Dolphin Encounter was a great deal.

The Hotel has a nice Lobby, The pool was dirty, security was weir, being in a pool with a armed guard. rooms of the villas were too small. the restaurants were ok.

The unit we had was in need of updating. The pull out sofa was worn. There was rust in one of the bathroom sinks. The siding glass doors were very difficult to open and close

New managment needed

Posted Aug 22, 2014
Pros: Pretty area, and cool lagoon pool.
Cons: Management and more staff.
Tried to check in at 2pm but room did not get ready until 6:20pm. Many others complaining about the same thing. Whole resort is in need of maintanance. The dock by boat fuel colapsed while we we were there.

Sunset Villas were great!

Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Was a very nice 2 story apartment with a view of the water. Very nicely furnished and very nice pool and scenery.
Cons: No pool towels at the Sunset Villas. Maybe give them at checkin?
Stayed 7 nights at the Sunset Villas in Hawks Cay. Room was better than described and great for me and my 2 kids. The private pool was nice and never crowded. We rented bikes and only drove the car when we left the resort. Ask for pool towels when you check-in. We had a wonderful vacation at Hawks Cay!

Nice amenities but needs updating.

The hotel villas seemed rundown. The phones weren't working. The cleaning crew didn't show up during our stay. The hotel seemed understaffed, which leads to over promising and under delivering. However, the marina activities and crew were amazing.

Not what it used to be.

Rented a villa and when we arrived the AC was broke and the flowers I had delivered were wilted because of it. It took 3 hours for them to switch us villas. Then the spa mixed up the surprise massages for the bridal party. The resort said they would comp a certain price, however, when I got the bill at the end of the weekend the refund was a lot less than what they said, due to the resort fees. I have stayed here before and never experienced it in such an awful way as I had this time. Maybe if they would have tried a little harder to make things right and not have given me attitude when complaining about the situation, I would give them another chance. Unfortantly, that's not the case. Customer service is not the best quality of Hawks Cay Resort.

Room was not ready when we arrived. The room they wanted to put us in 2 hours later was not clean, so we ended up in a smaller condo. Kind of cramped for 4 people, but we made the best of it

The Hawks Cay grounds are beautiful, however the villa cleanliness, maitenance and security are lacking. The Internet and phones did not work for our entire stay. The couch and chair cushions had numerous stains. The walls were covered with obvious stains and chips. The bed creaked with any movement. on a positive note, the bedding was clean, and the towels were delivered daily. One night of our stay was spent listening to our neighbors, who loaded at least 10 people into their villa, party until 4 in the morning. Although my kids had a good time, my husband and I were very disappointed. These villas are not worth the expensive price we paid.

Badly in need of updates. Service at restaurants was terrible.
