Practical Pitstop and Don't Miss the QUEEN!Posted Dec 4, 2013
Pros: Price, location, amenities
Cons: Newer televisions and maybe lighting at poolside
Marina del Mar was a one-night stay for our family of four on the way to Key West, just after our "dolphin experience" on Key Largo. Although the facility is obviously dated, the room, pool, and amenities all worked well for us. It was a pleasant surprise to discover we had a full kitchen! Made for an inexpensive dining option as we were able to "eat in." Staff was friendly without being ingratiating. It was very fun to be right on the marina and to see the variety of boats, including the real-deal AFRICAN QUEEN as she chugged off on a canal cruise with some lucky Bogart/Hepburn wannabes. Some less positive things to note (but not deal-breakers by any means): Pool area is very dimly lit at night, with hot tub in complete darkness...hmmmm.... The beds in our room were "Murphy beds" folding down out of the wall, and the t.v. was (drum roll) an old, old, analog non-flat screen. But it worked. Once we plugged it in.

Very convenient for fishing holidaysPosted Dec 2, 2013
Pros: Clean rooms Easy access to fishing and SCUBA charters
Cons: Bath towels could be a little bigger
Location: Deep sea and reef charter boats SCUBA diving charter boats plenty of bars and restaurants less than a mile away
In Key Largo to go deep sea fishing the hotel was within easy walking distance of many of the charter boats (also for those that want to SCUBA dive). Right alongside the waterway leading out to the reefs and beyond our fourth floor room had great views down the channel above the palm tree tops. The room was clean and everything worked fine. NOTE: Some (maybe all) rooms have whirlpool baths, when ours didn't work we checked with Reception. She told us that none of them operate as the pumps are so noisy they disturb the rooms next door so have been shut off. The Continental breakfast was plentiful and the coffee was excellent! The swimming pool was warm and had good access - it is sometimes used by people training with SCUBA gear, not sure how often.

Great family facilityPosted Nov 30, 2013
Pros: Personal and the cleanliness. Location was perfect for us.
Cons: Maybe the breakfast. Kids would have liked waffles. (unable to completed the next question)
Location: two of our party were certified in scuba diving with a local dive instructor. We drove to Bahia Honda and swam on the way to Key West.
We had a family vacation with 3 families represented including 5 children 2 dogs and a bird. The people were so accommodating and we had the convenience of being able to walk to many of the local services we used. Our rooms were clean and the beds so very comfortable. We will stay there again.

excellent location, poor room descriptionsPosted Oct 30, 2013
Pros: Location and Marina!
Cons: Hotel staff to listen and assist with room descriptions and customers needs. Better descriptions of rooms.
Location: Marina with bars & dockside seating to eat, drink, relax, socialize, play pool, watch sports, or just hang out and do nothing at all
Great location!!! Loved the Marina!! Loved the walking distance to great food and nightlife. Upon check in as I walked into our room I immediately noticed the double murphy beds in the wall. I specifically requested a queen bed at a minimum but preferred a king for comfort because as a couple we are not SMALL people any more. Frustrated and sick, hot and tired from searching for our rooms we went back down and changed to the ONLY KING bed available at $130+ ADDITIONAL to my initial Expedia reservation. This was the most rediculously expensive room for ONE NIGHT I have ever had to pay for and will never again. The hotel staff was not helpful or pleasant to assist in my need of a Queen or King size bed that was NOT a murphy bed and if it weren't for friends of ours who had a room there with us that we were travelling with we most definitely would have left to find another hotel.
