The best place of our WHOLE trip!Posted Jun 17, 2014
Cons: Not a single thing.
Location: Excellent location to stores and snorkeling. We went with STARFISH SNORKELING, near the Sombrero Resort, and would dine at SUNSET BAR&GRILL by eve.
We had the most amazing time at the Sombrero Resort! I must first thank Francesca for her excellent service and knowledge as she was VERY helpful. ALSO...to Will, resort mananger, for HIS excellent service as he accommodated our request to keep our same condo when we decided to make the Sombrero our "home-base" and booked 4 more nights w/ them. We seen manitees, eagle rays, and a lone barricuda in the channel right off our balcony, which was amazing. Our condo was spacious and VERY clean. The view we had was amazing as we discovered you can watch SUNRISE AND SUNSET right from the balcony. We also enjoyed having the private carports. The pool was HUGE and clean, w/ a bar right next to the pool. The staff there was GREAT as well. We CANNOT wait to return....

Nice room with kitchen on canalPosted Jun 16, 2014
Nice budget rooms with super fast elevator right on canal. Kitchen makes it convenient. Older but for the price and location they can't be beat.

Not the greatest!Posted Jun 4, 2014
Cons: It was not ready from redo/repairs/renovating as far as we could see. Very old everything.
no maid service......to speak of, did not make bed, rinsed dishes, no more soap left, etc. A C was VERY loud. was not very clean in bathroom, kitchen and lighting was dim at best. It was ok for sleeping only.

Old hotel. Needs to be updated.Posted May 28, 2014
Pros: Centrally located. Large rooms.
Cons: Very poor lighting in the rooms and broken light bulbs.
Somewhat pricey for the condition of the hotel and the rooms. Pretty beat up. Clean but beat up.

Well past its dayPosted May 27, 2014
Cons: Really there is nothing that does not need to be improved, perhaps by a bull dozer.
Location: Marathon is a wonderful base location to enjoy all the Florida Keys have to offer.
In its day this resort must have been a wonderful place to stay; however, like an aging diva who does not realize spandex and spike heels are no longer her friends, the Sombrero Beach Resort is past it day. I was disappointed on day one when there were no wash clothes included in the dollar store quality bath linens, but this was resolved the next day when I requested the full set of linens which included a lovely fringe of foot long frays on the towels. This would have been surprising had I not observed curious blue stains on the “clean” bed sheet under the fully pilled blanket on the hard as a box spring mattress that rested a mere 5 inches off the floor. Fortunately the weather was low humidity and cool so I was able to turn off the amazingly rusted rattletrap of an AC unit in the bedroom so as to be able to sleep without fighting the noise all night. On our last day when the TV quite working I was hopeful that ti would be fixed as promised by the front desk but after the third call I gave up all hope. The front desk told me upon check out that they know room needs to be completely redone and hope it would happen by the end of 2015 not that the resort is no longer bank owned. When asking to be compensated for the horrible condition of everything in the room, I was told since I had booked through Expedia, I would need to contact them. The staff has no concern for customer service.
