“Quaint Island Getaway”

Beach is extremely private and literally right across the street from the hotel. Just a short walk from room to the beach access. We brought our own chairs/umbrella so we avoided the extra fees. Water was amazing. Very warm and beautiful green shade. Sand was dark and coarse but we are spoiled as we frequent Siesta Key every weekend back home. Hotel was reasonably clean. Was one palmetto bug on its back kicking when we walked in. But didn't see anymore the rest of stay. Pool was popular. More people there than the beach on both days. Guess because no bar at the beach. The staff was a big asset. Very friendly. Made it very comfortable. Old Captiva House was AMAZING. Really nice presentation and some of the best food I've had in a long time. I will repeat for sure. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle I would definetly say Tween Waters Inn is worth the visit.

“Great Old Florida”

Tween Waters rates great on food, location and service. Our only complaint is that the bathrooms need updating but if you are able to look at it as retro Florida then it is fine. We can't praise it enough for food, service and location. One of the best vacations we have had!

When to go
We went the week of May 20th which is perfect because it is one of the least crowded times -- the week before Memorial Day.
Getting there
We flew into Fort Myers and rented a car -- its about a 45 minute drive from the airport.
What to pack
Captiva is VERY casual!!!! Shorts and flip flops are essentials. No one dresses up which is great!
Must see
The sunsets on the beach are FABULOUS! We ordered a sunset picnic basket from the hotel that included fresh fruit, shrimp, cheese and crackers and watched the sun set. Make sure to take your camera! The Mucky-Duck is also a great restaurant to enjoy the sunset -- it gets really crowded about an hour before and after sunset so get there early enough and ask for a table by the window.

“Definitely a "Do Over"!...”

We LOVED the 300 level gulf view room we had for the first 7 days-we added 2 days at the end of our vacation and were moved to the 200 level marina rooms. There was a horrible sewer smell for about an hour when we moved in. Seemed to be cleaned up shortly after but kind of gross, just the same!

“will definitely go back”

We were very happy with our stay at Tween Waters. We both commented on the cleanliness of the room. We have stayed in a lot of hotels in our travels and can't remember one as clean. We also liked the continental breakfasts served every morning of our stay. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The location of the hotel was also right at the top of our list with the bay on one side and the gulf on the other. The sunsets are beautiful and all we had to do is walk across the street to see them. We are already talking about planning our next visit.

Area recommendations
The entire island is interesting and along with Sanibel Island is a beachcomber's heaven. Shopping is also big on the islands and the wildlife refuge on Sanibel is a do-not-miss experience.

“Tween Water INN”

This hotel was everything I expected. The rooms and grounds were very will kept and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only small inconvenience that occurred is with the wi-fi. The buildings are made for reinforced concrete for hurricanes which the wi-fi and terrible connections. But I am definitely going back.

“See you in August 2011”

This was our first visit to Captiva Island and Tween Waters Inn so we didn't know what to expect. We were more than pleased with the island and accomodations. It was perfect from beginning to end! The resort is only a short walk to the beach...there are umbrellas/chairs available, however you must rent them for a moderate price. For shell seekers...it's a wonderland. The Continental Breakfast was over the top...excellent! Our room was right by the pool, which by the way was much larger than most hotel pools and very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely will go back next year!

Area recommendations
Captiva/Sanibel Islands are terrific! We have been going to Sanibel for years, but thought we would try Captiva this year. You really can't go wrong on either island. Once we are on the island, we normally don't leave until it is time to head back to the airport.
Getting around
If this is your first time on Sanibel or Captiva Island...there is a charge of $6.00 per car (larger vehicles are more) to cross the causeway. If you plan of travelling on and off the islands...check with your rental co. as they offered us a pass instead of paying each time.

“Good for families”

This was a fun place for families and extended families who want to spend time together at the pool or beach or other activities. The restaurants and pool bar on-site were very convenient and good. Excellent breakfast, and the dinner at Captiva House outstanding. The crab race at bar was sold out, disappointing. We had a great time. This was not a luxurious room, really the only disappointment (besides crab race!).

Area recommendations
We enjoyed restaurants in the area (Mucky Duck, marina on corner, Captiva House). Riding bikes. Visiting Ft. Myers Edison winter cottage. The nature preserve was pretty boring -- maybe if you go early in the day you'll see something. We saw a small gator cross the road at a rapid speed the day we arrived. That was the most exciting site! Not in the preserve. :)
