Great location, older buildingPosted Jan 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
The location couldn't be more convenient, and the building's exterior, and lobby area are a attractive, with sort of a vintage charm. Our rooms were clean and the staff seemed genuinely caring. But our rooms felt rather old and worn, and the toilets and taps seemed quite old. The water actually had a yellow tinge to it, which made us not want to drink it. Also, the mattresses were very soft - appeared to be all foam with no springs. I wouldn't book again without finding out what the deal was with the water, and if it had been corrected.

Comfortable hotel for a small townshipPosted Dec 30, 2012
Pros: Very comfortable, warm, friendly staff, and yummy breakfast buffet
Cons: Limited lobby hours and no indication of where to go to check-in after hours
Location: Dead center of the Fox Glacier township
This was our first hotel stay in New Zealand. This hotel is in a very small township so be sure to check the lobby hours so you don't get there late and the lobby is closed like we did. Luckily, we saw a bar/restaurant with lights on up the hill behind the hotel and just happen to find some of the staff from our hotel who guided us to the night manager desk and checked us into our hotel. The parking was limited to one major lot but you could pull your car up to the stairs or door and unload. The rooms have radiator heat so very warm and toasty. There was a bathroom with toilet, shower, and sink and also a sink and mirror in the room. Bathroom had a sliding, expandable door, but the shower water pressure was very nice. Wireless internet worked fine and the breakfast buffet was very good. If doing a glacier tour, the office is just across the street. Great hotel for Fox Glacier and thanks again to the staff!

Not impressedPosted Apr 26, 2011
You have no other choice I suppose. It is antique. Its good for a day I suppose, not more than that. Internet is expensive and a struggle. Beds were small. Restroom was small. TV was ordinary. The attached cafe was alright for food. Staff were friendly though but not help with luggage.

Herrible at Heartland Hotel Glacier CountryPosted Apr 27, 2010 on Hotels.com
I was my biggest mistake to choose this hotel and I apologized to my family that it was my false. There was no comments from hotels.com and I didn't have ideas about it. The hotel room looked very old (including all equipments). You may not imagine that the washbasin was outside the bathroom and you have to brush teeth in the room (Ohhhhh). Strongly Not Recommend !!!

Well, it served a purpose, which was to walk the glacier the next day, but the hotel didn't add anything to the event. The room had what was needed but was not attractive in any way. It had a large window looking onto the walkway to several other rooms, giving it a rather insecure feel, and leaving us feeling somewhat vulnerable. We didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on that - there were one or two places in the village to eat of varying type - we happened not to choose well for evening meal, but breakfast in the hobnail cafe opposite was good.
