Simple, reasonable hotel just outside old city

Posted Aug 31, 2014
Pros: Friendly staff, reasonable price.
Cons: Parking lot (e.g. install an entry gate or some other type of security device, have all payments done through hotel desk), swimming pool
Location: See above. Ideal for train travelers and about 10 minutes to old town city.
I stayed at this hotel for one night while traveling through Nuremberg. I was surprised to find out that it is NOT in the old city center but rather just outside of it, behind the main rail station. Travelers on train will probably find this a great location. If you want to see the old city center, however, it's about a 10-minute walk. Not too bad, except that you either have to walk through the train station or through a 150-yard tunnel full of car exhaust if you want to do this. The castle overlooking the old city is on the opposite (north) side and about a 20-minute walk. The hotel is probably priced appropriately overall. The swimming pool in the basement is tiny and without sunlight, too small for swimming laps in case that was your plan. Parking is an uncovered and unlocked lot just behind the hotel. Ask the hotel desk to charge you (10 euros) for a 24-hour parking permit rather than paying the machine in the lot, which only gives < 8-hour permits at at time. Only one of the 3 hotel staff I interacted with was aware of how parking permits/payments work.

Across the street from the train station.

Very comfortable. Great water pressure in the shower. Our room was on a lower level so cool. Would have been nice to have a coffee/tea pot in the room.

Hotel was ok. Swimming pool and spa was very noisy. The old town was close enough but you had cross a rather dodge tunnel

VERY GOOD HOTEL WITH EXCELLENT PERSONNEL!

Posted Mar 11, 2014
Pros: Staff and room
Cons: The bar, very small
Location: Great location, next to the train station and within walking distance from Old town
All the hotel employees are very nice and helpful, hotel situation next to the train station is great, good breakfast, probably the only thing they should change will be the Bar, it is unusually small. The rooms look like they have been recently renovated good size, very nice shower/water pressure, large TV, minibar

Dear guest, thank you for your nice recommendation. We all are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel so much. Concerning your remark to our bar you are right. It definitively not a big one. But most of our guests like it because it's so cozy. Best greetings from Franconia to Texas, Yours sincerely Peter Löw, your host and the team of Ringhotel Loew's Merkur

Booked at the last minute with little availability elsewhere. Service was excellent, with the reception staff very helpful despite being busy. Central location good for airport and exhibition center.

We enjoyed the great service. They booked a great restaurant reservation and delivered breakfast to our room with only a half hour notice. The room was TINY and we overpaid. I would have taken the room for fifty percent of what we paid, all the pluses taken into consideration.

Dear guest, thank you for your comment. I regret that you could not enjoy all aspects of your stay in our Hotel. Unfortunately I cannot clearly understand, whether you were satisfied with the Restaurant and the breakfast service - or not. Please apologize that I do not comment the rate because I have neither Information which room you booked nor at what rate. So due to this lack of Information I cannot answer in a satisfying manner to your specific review. I hope that apart from the points you mentioned you had a successful and pleasant trip to Nuremberg. Yours sincerely Peter Löw, your host

Great location

Posted Feb 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel is easy to find, being right behind the main train station, and makes a great base to anyone who wants to our the city. The service was friendly and efficient, and the breakfast (at an extra €11) was great. The only gripe I have is that the rooms decor is pretty dated, though it was at least nice and clean.

disappointing...

Posted Sep 24, 2013 on Hotels.com
We didn't enjoy our stay, our room was acessed by taking the lift and then having to negotiate three stairways, and a long corridor. Security as poor, a drunk was able to bang on our door and try to access the room at thrre o'clock in the morning...staff on reception claim it wasn't their resposibility and dismissed it...we will not stay here again.

Dear guest, thank you for your review. We are very sorry that you could not enjoy your stay in our hotel. Concering the incident you mentioned I am completely informed about the situation. Unfortunately your sleep was interrupted during that night by a guest who misunderstood the floor map and tried to enter his room on the wrong floor level. And you are abolutely right: He was very drunk, what explains his misunderstanding. However my night auditor led him immediately to his right room. My management apologized next morning to you personally and we hoped that you might excuse this unpleasant behavour of a guest, who did not intentionally wake you up in the middle of the night. Concerning the lift we do our very best to reserve rooms close to the lift and without any stairs to all guests who love short tracks in the hotel and wish to avoid long passages We are a middle-sized hotel, but we try to keep ways as short as possible. Yours sincerely Peter Löw, your host
