“you get what you pay for, almost”

If you don't plan on staying in the room much, i'ts probably a tolerable hotel. As far as being on the Galveston seawall, it was close to a decent beach. (Across Seawall Boulevard) The traffic noise was fairly loud and they were doing some kind of maintenance, grinding and drilling in the concrette balconies which made it impossible to sit around the pool or anywhere else on the property during the day. Hopefully, this will be completed soon. The hotel is old and well worn. Bring your own coffee cups! The styrefoam ones in the lobby by the coffee machine were about the size of a shot glass! That just ain't right! On the good side, the bed was comfortable and the hotel is within walking distance of several restaurants. The view of the gulf was good but the noise of the traffic made it a little difficult to enjoy from the balcony. I read the Expeia reviews so I pretty much knew what to expect. You usually get what you pay for and next time I'll probably pay a little more somewhere else.

When to go
Any time while school is in session. We went the last part of October and the first part of November and there were no crowds at restaurants, etc. Be carefull about the timing of the Lonestar Bike Rally (which is around this same time), as things definitely get crowded on that weekend.

“Great Location, needs updating”

You get what you pay for. If you want an upscale experience with newer furnishings and a classy atmosphere, stay at the Wyndham or the Galvez for 2 or 3 times the price of the Commodore. But if you just need a place to sleep with easy beach access and restaurants and bars in walking distance, then the Commodore is the spot. If you're coming for a week, I wouldn't recommend the Commodore, but for a 2 or 3 night stay, it is perfect. If you need a firm mattress, you may want to try another place. I was comfortable on it since I'm a side sleeper, but the king size mattress had a LOT of give to it. Oh, also, if you're a smoker: the Commodore doesn't allow smoking on the property - not in the room, on the balconies, or anywhere. It is a completely non-smoking facility. They will charge you $150/ day extra if they find you smoking or evidence of it in your room.

“Decent...”

for the price. Woke up each morning to the sight of the waves rolling in. Every room has a beach view, which was all I was really looking for.

“Best front beach hotel for the price.”

Everything was very good. Clean and comfortable beach front room with chairs in the balcony at very good price. Front desk clerks Nancy and Jose were very friendly and helpful when I asked for any directions and invited us (my son and me) to join them for the continental breakfast and for the donuts on the evening. The lady on the front desk and the housekkeeping girl were very friendly too.The swimming pool was clean and beutiful. My son really enjoy our vacation. We liked so much that we spend most of the time in the hotel, the beach and the swimming pool. The location of the hotel was the best thing. A REAL HOTEL ON THE BEACH, at a very affordable price. Definitely I will return to this hotel in Galveston Tx.

“Worst Hotel Ever !!!”

If you like the smell of mold and mildew this is the place for you . Rooms are climate control and very hot and humid . Your best bet would be to drive on by or camp out on the beach . Needs to be torn down and rebuilt . You can tell they haven't made any updates since the 80's . Don't waste your money . The pics on the internet are very deceiving .

“After a day in the sun a sweltering hotel room just wont do.”

The hotel would have been fine with the exception of the air conditioning. We spent the day in the hot sun on the beach and when we returned to the room, it was very warm. We spoke with the front desk and asked to have the AC looked at. When we returned from dinner, it was still hot and when I asked the front desk what the problem was, I was given an old, dirty box fan and told to make due. The next morning I spoke with the front desk again and aked if there was a solution to the ac problem and I was told it was just hot outside and the AC could not keep up. Then I was told if I wanted to check out early that would be fine. I did just that and I will never be back. EVER.

“will be back for sure”

Loved the location, walk to beach and restaurants. Nice brick walls, solid building and staff. Did book balconey and none were left. No big deal. It was almost better being on 1st floor. Not enough ice and no refrigerators... only drawback for me. We were fine with using coolers.

“mixed emotions”

We chose this Hotel because of the view, which is most important to us,in my opinion, its the best on the sea wall. there were two employees there who were very rude, a older woman with redish hair, upon arrival seem very put out by having to wait on her customers, then upon leaving, a younger man with a beard also had no class while interacting with guests. I guess you get what you pay for.

“Not as bad as the reviews I read”

If you want luxury, pay those prices. We went to have fun at the beach. Hotel directly across from beach and took us about 5 min. to get from room to beach. Elevator slow and HOT but it worked. We took the stairs at times. Breakfast was only cereal and rolls, coffee, milk, juice. Balconies great, looking right at the Gulf. I read such horrible reviews that I was worried. It wasn't the Galvez, but it didn't cost what that cost. We weren't in the room much except to shower, change, sleep, etc. I will stay there again.

“Was a nice trip”

We were satisfied with the facility except for no laundry area. Cross the HWY to the beach and kids loved the pool.
