Very Disappointing
Posted Jan 17, 2013
Pros: Staff was very nice
Cons: Better cleaning staff
Our original room was filthy so we were moved to another room which wasnt much better, we wanted to stay at the Galvez since we were interested in its history but was very disappointed in the quality of the rooms... I felt like I was staying in a motel. I understand that the hotel is old but it could you some major updating. Very overpriced!

Great Vacation
Posted Jan 17, 2013
Pros: Pool, lobby and front lawn area were wonderful. Overall atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting.
Cons: Beds sould be replaced and desks added to rooms.
The hotel itself is beautiful with great landscaping, pool and view of the beach. We arrived around 5pm on Friday and there was a piano in the lobby and was a very inviting atmosphere. Staff were extremly friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful lawn in the front with ocean view and was great to get a glass of wine and let the kids run around. The location is great as it's right across from the beach and two blocks down from several great resteraunt choices and the pier. The room itself was the only disappointment because you could hear everyone that walked down the hall and the beds were older and small and overall room size was small.

Beautiful Hotel!!!
Posted Jan 15, 2013
Pros: It really is a beautiful place, and great location
Cons: More hooks for hanging wet towels & beach things
Location: Right on the seawall, convenient to the beach, lots of restaurants within walking distance, and a few minutes walk to the Pleasure Pier.
Hotel Galvez is just LOVELY. It is unlike any of the other hotels on the sea wall, and looks like a step back in time but doesn't feel dated. Very convenient to the beach, free garage self-parking. Service is prompt & top-notch. I was really worried about the size of the room after reading other reviews, but it was fine. Bed was comfy for a hotel, bathroom was nice and toiletries were good quality. Everything was clean and comfortable! My only problem was that there weren't enough hooks or bars for hanging wet towels and beach things. This was our first family trip to Galveston but we have already talked about returning to stay at the Galvez again.

Awesome Pool!
Posted Jan 15, 2013
Pros: Loved the pool/hot tub/swim-up bar. Landscaping kept you from realizing you were next to the street, and maximized the ocean breeze.
Cons: Wish our room was bigger for the price paid, but I realize that it's size is indicative of the period built.
Location: There were souvenir shops and restaurants within walking distance...and of course beach access.
Had a nice stay at the hotel, staff was wonderful, room was clean. Room and bathroom was smaller than expected for the money paid, but indicative of the time the hotel was originally built. Spent quite a bit of time at the awesome pool. Loved the landscaping and the swim-up bar. Very relaxing atmosphere! The hot tub was a nice ending to an evening at the pool.

Nice hotel. I'd stay there again.
Posted Jan 10, 2013
Pros: The free bike rental.
Cons: Cloudy pool.
Location: Central - a great spot.
The pool was cloudy and the bed didn't have a fitted sheet. Overall, it was a nice stay. When I pay that much for a room - I look for a higher level of excellence.

I've had better for the price...

Pros: brunch looked great!
Cons: wine choices by the glass are minimal, bell hops are hit or miss
Location: nice location, walk right out to the beach
Hotel Galvez was built in 1911, some of the character is kept up, but frankly they do a poor job of offering services and delivering current amenities to travelers. This is by far the worst Wydam property i have stayed at. If i go back it would not be here. Not worth $342 per night by any means.

Nice historic hotel but lacks attention to detail
Posted Jan 9, 2013
The overall stay was nice and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Didn't like that our coffee maker didn't have a carafe and that the shower sprayed water all over the bathroom (needs a better shower curtain). We also found the pool area very nice but the water was dirty. The hot tub was great though. Breakfast was fantastic.

Queen of the Gulf--You bet!
Posted Jan 8, 2013
Pros: Location, pool, ambience, staff
Cons: The only negative is that the rooms would probably be small for a family. However, it was perfect for us--a couple.
Location: Probably the best location in Galveston! Nice beach walkover, Murdoch's and Pleasure Pier and Restaurants all withing walking distance.
This is an amazing hotel. Over 100 years old and full of charm. I will have to stay here again and again!

Grande Dame of the Gulf

If you want a hotel on the beach with a great view and within walking distance to food, shopping and entertainment, The Galvez is it. The bar and restaurant is very nice and quite the gathering place for both locals and visitors, and the Sunday brunch is legendary. I know some people have complained about the rooms being to small, but I found my room to be quite cozy and the large windows opened up the space. Yes, the Galvez is pricey, but the convenience, atmosphere and service is well worth it.
