No mattress cover on one of my beds

Posted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: The price was good but that is about all
Cons: EVERYTHING could use improvements at this property
Location: lots of things to do on the island
After waiting nearly 3 hours I finally got a mattress cover, it was wadded up and thrown on my bed by the staff. I asked him if he was going to put it on and he said that was not his job! Also if it was clean, don't you think it would have been folded and not wadded up? No covers on power receptacles, no shelving in fridge, bugs crawling under sheets and on walls, wifi didn't work at all during my stay of 3 days. clerk refused to let me speak with mgmt. Police were called to escort me from the property because the I wanted a clean bed, upon talking with me they sided with me and told the hotel clerk they were not going to escort me off the property because I was not out of line (I had 3 kids with me for God sake) and I was in the right. upon check out I told mgmt of my experience and he gave me a voucher for one night in the same hotel only. You get what you pay for that is for sure! When you book through a site such as this, there are NO REFUNDS so I was pretty much stuck there for my entire stay. I tried to call customer service and they are not open at night???? This is a hotel, people need you at night not M-F 9-5 anyway I would definitely not recommend anyone stay here!

Good for the money.

Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Location was near my son' s school.
Cons: Cleanliness
Room had an overwhelming smell of smoke. Had to air out room for a few hours. Cigarette burns on quilt cover, and leftover beer bottle and pretzels from the guest before us. Free WiFi and safe available, cable tv. Located by train tracks fortunately the ac was so loud it muffled some of train.

nice room, location not so great

Posted Jul 11, 2014
Pros: I think I said it all in the previous paragraph.
I was just there for one night, and was in much need of rest. The room was nice and updated, and for me the best thing was there was an actual bathtub and not just a shower. Things appeared to be pretty clean, however when I went to use the blowdryer, it was not so clean, you imagined people drying their hair after the beach. Although, it is not near the beach at all, kind of in the shipyards, with sort of a swamp area behind it when you open the windows. It does not look as nice on the outside as it appears on the website for Expedia. But for one night it was ok, and the beds were fine and nice bedspreads. There was a fridge and a microwave in the room, wish I would have had time to have used them, but appreciated they were there.

Amazing Staff

Posted Jul 10, 2014
Pros: The staff was amazing
Cons: I don't have anything that I would suggest.
Location: It is right off the Highway C1 Exit, close to a gas station, and one exit down is the main thorough fare to Galveston. May 7-9 minutes from Seawall.
My best friend's daughter has asthma, she needed a treatment but we arrived earlier than the check in time. I explained the situation to the front desk attendant and she was able to get us into a room early. She went out of her way to go locate the staff and got us a room just cleaned downstairs so the girl wouldn't have to walk up stairs. I have rarely had the pleasure of encountering staff who was so accommodating at a tourist location mid-level chain hotel (usually I only encounter this kind of accommodating behavior at high end hotels or remote location family owned hotels). Even cooler was that we were able to watch the cleaning staff while we waited for our room to be ready - they were quick but also thorough. The room was turned around with all sheets replaced, all towels, and vacuumed/wiped down. The breakfast was cereal, bread, bagels, oatmeal, jams, coffee, and juices and was open from 7am-10am. During the hot/humid months mesquites are horrible no matter where you stay or walk but in the room only 2 followed us in (great considering we were next to a pond of water). I go down to Galveston about 1 time every other year but will definitely stay here again because they made me feel like I was a valued customer rather than just another person walking into their lobby.

The room was clean the staff was pleasant.

Pros: The room was clean the staff was pleasant.
Cons: Wish they would have had a swimming pool.
Location: Was easy to find as soon as you came into Galveston. Easy to get out to leave town. everything was on the other side of the island.
Loved the room and staff. Would have liked to be closer to the beach but overall was pleased.

Fisherman's Hotel

Posted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: It is in a fabulous location to where the cruise ships dock. Very easy and quick to get to your ship.
Cons: It needs a major make-over, including new comforters without cigarette holes in them.
This is a very old hotel that could definitely use a face lift. The guy at the front desk was very nice. I told him that although I had not requested a "smoking" room, Expedia had booked it that way. He said that this happens frequently (?). He even offered to refund our money if we found the room unacceptable. (Which I thought was very nice.) So, being a non-smoking family, the smell in the room was HORRIBLE to us. We Febreezed everything (even the a/c vents), but nothing helped :( My husband called this a "fisherman's hotel" - for a couple of guys going fishing, it would be fine; however, not where you want to start a family vacation.

nice place to stay

Posted Jun 27, 2014
Pros: the cleanliness
Cons: nothing
Location: schulitterbaun and the harbor
The hotel desk clerk, Todd was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Only downfall is there are train tracks behind the location and the train comes by the hotel about three time a night and blows its horn and you can hear it very clearly. The continental breakfast is very small.Beside that our stay was good
