“Not the best--pick a bed and breakfast instead”
Although the website for the hotel paints a pretty picture, the reality is that this hotel could be so much better than it is. It wasn't too expensive, but compared to our stays in bed and breakfasts in other places in Ireland, this was a disappointment. I think with an infusion of money and more staff, this could be so much nicer, but it looked very tired and sad, and the odors from the kitchen were very unappealing. We ate elsewhere. Room itself was clean enough and big by European standards (we had a triple), but ceiling was cracked in places, carpet stained, and shower pressure weak. Location is good--it's a great place to begin and end a Connemara loop drive and still be fairly close to Galway. But there is nothing nearby at all, no town, no gas station, nothing. Maam Cross is simply a point on the map. Funny point--my husband asked me when I thought the hotel had been built (based on the way it looked), and I said probably 1960's. A plaque on the wall said it had been dedicated less than 10 years ago. Does not look it, from the outside or the inside. The staff are nice enough, by the way, just looked a bit overtaxed. Made me feel a bit sad for them.
