A good value...but dated

Posted Jul 27, 2015
Pros: Location, access to public transportation
Cons: better wi-fi, bar service.
Location: Very conveniently located to Ober Gatlinburg, restaurants, nightlife, and entrance to Smokey Mountains National Park.
Staff are friendly and accommodating. Walking distance to Galtinburg attractions and right next to a trolley stop. At 110 bucks the price is right about on par with similar hotels. For those that haven't been to Gatlinburg, the overwhelming majority of the hotels in walking distance are 1970's era. There has been very little "new" hotel construction in the past 30 years. Most (like the Glenstone Lodge) are well kept up, but they lack the amenities such as a bar/lounge. They serve a breakfast menu on weekdays, and a buffet breakfast on weekends (no lunch or dinner). Their pool area is the centerpiece of the hotel and very busy. Realizing that the purpose of a hotel pool is drain the batteries of excited children, this pool is no exception. No peaceful soak in the hot tub or adults only times...much more of a waterpark type of energy. An unfortunate effect of such a large indoor pool complex is the persistent chlorine smell permeating the hotel hallways. Not as bad in the room, but still present if the AC is off. If you are bothered by this type of small, request an exterior balcony (vice pool balcony) room. The rooms were so-so. Very dated, and although wi-fi is "available", good luck getting on reliably. I'm not talking streaming/Netflix, just basic email and web surfing are slow and prone to frequent dropouts. Bottom line, its about what you'd expect for the price point and there aren't many better options within an easy walk to the strip.

Great value hotel located downtown Gatlinburg

Posted Jul 27, 2015
Pros: Trolly stop at corner of parking lot Indoor and outdoor pool Decent location Great breakfast buffet (for a fee) Friendly staff and quick check-in
Cons: New curtains Softer mattresses.. they weren't uncomfortable but I like mine pretty soft Increase WiFi range
Location: Location was about 2 or 3 blocks from the main strip. On a hot day it was pretty tiring to walk back to the hotel but a trolly stop is in the lot.
Went with my girlfriend and we checked in on a Thursday afternoon at around 6. There was no line to check-in so we got our keys within 2 minutes. Our room was a little inconvenient to get to. We had to park out back and walk around to find the elevator. Getting to our room from the lobby would have been more complicated. Ours was on the 3rd floor facing a small creek and nearby hotel. You couldn't really see the mountains from this side or anything. The hotel is an older one but it has a classic touch to it. Older looking hotels remind me of trip when I was a kid so I didn't mind. Being an older hotel however, it was not run down. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Fridge was included! The bathroom had recently been upgraded with new vanity, sink, and mirrors. I noticed the door connecting to the next room had been left unlocked. Glad I caught it but I wouldn't bash the hotel for it; mistakes happen. One more petty annoyance of mine was that the curtains needed to be replaced. It was difficult to work with to get it to close completely. Still, nothing I'm going to make an issue about. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. One thing I would recommend for anyone staying here is to avoid a room facing the indoor pool. These are the indoor balcony/hallway type that you use to access your room. Staying in one of these would mean hearing the echo from the pool and walking out of your room into a very humid climate.

Dated, but inexpensive.

Posted Jul 13, 2015
Pros: Cost. Pool.
Cons: Replace worn decor.
Location: Mellow Mushroom pizza was the best! Hiker store on the far end of town near park entrance has nice apparrel as opposed to the same t shirt stores over
Front desk staff were very nice and helpful. Hotel is dated and is need of just general repair and upkeep. We spent just two nights there and did not spend a lot of time at the hotel so for the money was worth it. More than two blocks from downtown but close enough to walk to the center of town in a relatively short time. Pool is somewhat unique and was enjoyed by our family. No free breakfast, buffet $10
