Ok hotel

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Very average hotel. They need to upgrade their washrooms: Old faucets and carpet; Bathtub was chipped; Shower door leaked water on the floor. As far as location, I have mixed feelings. It's great because it's 5 mins walk from train station but the area around the hotel is not the greatest. I don't recommend walking at night in that area.

Nice hotel centrally located

Posted Jul 19, 2014
Pros: The friendliness of the staff and the quality of the accomodation
Location: The lake is not too far away and offers many attractions from boat trips, little train rides and restaurants with a view.
This is a nice hotel centrally located which allows you to walk to the lake shore without too much problem. The staff was extremely pleasant and ready to assist on any matter. The only negative is that as it is close to the Geneva railway station, some of the side streets are not well frequented and can be intimidating when walking back at night. Other than that a very pleasant experience.

Worked for me

Posted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: Very nice hotel within walking distance of everything. Polite and nice staff. Room was nice. comfortable bed. Air conditioning was great.
Cons: A door or larger glass for the shower. Had to stand in the corner and try not to get the whole bathroom wet because there was no curtain or door .
Location: Everything is within walking distance and the train station is right next door
Spent a week in Geneva for a high school reunion and enjoyed it very much. Did not hang out in the hotel or try the restaurant but I enjoyed the room and lovely atmosphere of the hotel.

Exellent stay at the Hotel Royal Geneva

Posted Jul 13, 2014
The hotel in general was very good, rooms were extremely clean, we booked through expedia and were not disappointed. The rooms were excellent exactly as shown on professional photos, one was even more of a suite. I am generally fussy, luckily I could not find anything to find fault with (not that i wanted to!) so we were extremly pleased with our weekend stay, especially with the the staff at the reception they were extremely helpful, kind and attentive, and all spoke exellent English. The loaction was amazing, right at the centre of the city, the tram stops immediatly outside the door of the hotel, the train station (Cornavin) is a 5 minutes walk and its about 7 minutes walk to the lake side. Hotel highly recommended, it is a good 4 star.

The hotel has good location, just 5 minutes away from a railway station and about 10-15 minutes walk from the centre. The rooms are cozy and nice with good decoration.

Cons: staff professionalism
My family stayed here for one night. It is a decent place, well located near the station, and my agency also uses them for meetings from time to time. We had a good stay. The hotel staff were a bit slow, and not very professional. There was a long conversation going on between them while I was waiting to be attended to. It seems that if a large group of people are waiting after having traveled long and far, whatever other conversations can be delayed. Also, the staff seemed to have preferential treatment for some over others, taking extra care offer help and tips and courtesies to some but not others, which did not go well with me. But once one is over the process of interaction with the staff, the room and facilities are good.

Bad section of town

Posted Jun 16, 2014
Pros: The staff was pleasant, but did not know about the area.
Cons: Find better ways to get people to the sights of Geneva.
Location: See above.
Although the hotel staff was pleasant, the hotel is in a bad area of town. We were told the way to walk to Lake Geneva was to go down one street lined with prostitutes. This was not a pretty way to see Geneva. We did get to the old section of town and enjoyed the time we had there. Due to this fact, we did not want to venture out after dark so we ate at the hotel restaurant. Even with a 15% discount, it was a very pricey meal. Hamburgers were 28 francs a piece. In order to use the lights in the room, the key had to be in the slot. Otherwise all the lights went out. I understand this was a conservation effort and appreciate that fact, but the switches by the bedside lights did not work and when one person got up all the lights had to either be on or off. This made our stay even more unpleasant. Needless to say, we could not get out of Geneva fast enough.
