“It's like a hostel, but not at hostel prices”

If we had booked a hostel and were paying hostel prices, the Acquaverde wouldn't have been so bad. It's in a good location, very near to the Station Principe, near the university and plenty of other hotels and restaurants in the street, seems very safe. On the plus side, it is a beautiful old building and has some quirky original features, a beautiful floor and some of the rooms have frescos on the ceilings. On the minus side, my room was very tired, marks on the walls, what seemed like 30 year old lampshades stuck together with sellotape, chipped furniture, a bed that seemed like a glorified camp bed. A hike over a foot into the shower, which had to be turned off everything few minutes to stop the water over flowing as the drain was blocked. The doors to the room had windows covered over with white plastic, which let light through from the corridor. Can't comment on the breakfast, as it wasn't included in the price, to be honest we chose this hotel because everything else we looked at was very expensive. However this place was not cheap and I was left feeling we did not really get what we paid for. It may be 2 star but perhaps this rating was given in 1980s, when it seems it was last decorated. By comparison we stayed in two great hotels in Signa and Cinque Terre which were cheaper and offered so much more for the money.
