“Lovely location”
Having read the other reviews I was prepared to be a bit disappointed by the hotel. Others referred to unfriendly, inefficient reception staff, poor quality buffet breakfast and the fact that the beach concession just opposite the hotel had to paid for at about 30 euros a day and, being hotel guests, there was a suggestion that this should be free for guests. It was also said that it was a 4-star hotel without 4-star service.
I have to say that I found the Reception staff a bit unfriendly, i.e. you could approach the desk and they would not even acknowledge you, if they were dealing with someone else or on the 'phone.
It was an advantage to speak Italian, as I was able to ask someone to mend my bath plug, which did not work. They dealt with this within 24 hours.
The breakfast was very adequate, though the coffee machine (Douwe Egberts) should have been replaced by good, Italian coffee.
I learned that the beach concessions have nothing to do with the hotel, so have to be paid for. However, the hotel pool is free, with comfortable loungers and a friendly pool attendant who gives out free towels, so I mainly went there in the afternoon.
I had a lovely room at the back overlooking trees and the Palazzo Cambiasi in its park & the surrounding hills.
All in all, speaking Italian was an advantage. I think Reception is understaffed.
I found some lovely local restaurants in the evening (Il Piazzetta, Ristorante del Sole, Parodi) & ate in the hotel restaurant twice Food very good.
