Gilsland is near a range of colorful Cumbria’s more popular attractions. Two of the most interesting places to see are the fabulous Thirlwall Castle and the incredible Roman Army Museum. Also, well worth the effort are Crag Lough and Vindolanda.
Allow plenty of time to visit the more famous sights in the area. If you’re into history, Cumbria’s past has been beautifully preserved at the Housesteads Roman Fort in Hexham and the Great Chesters Fort.
Spend an afternoon with fellow sports fans at Brunton Park, Carlisle, cheering on the much-loved Carlisle United FC. On weekends the stadium overflows with blue and white, as local soccer lovers flock together to get behind their beloved team.
At the end of a long day exploring the delights of Gilsland, put up your feet and relax in one of the area’s popular bed-and-breakfasts, hotels or short-stay apartments. Check out the rooms, rates and amenities at the Ald White Craig Farm, Haltwhistle, the String of Horses Inn, Brampton, or the Kellah Farm B&B, Haltwhistle.
