“not impressed”

On entering the room our first impression was a 'down' one. This was mainly because of the colour of the duvet cover and pillows - dark brown. They matched the 'leather' bed - also dark brown. Our next poor impression was that the bed was old and not comfortable. The only chair in the room also was old and contributed to the poor initial impression. There was no lamp near the bed - a necessity. We had failed to notice that the room was not en-suite so that was the next disappointment. We would not have booked if we'd known. All the doors in the building are fire doors which is good except there was no way of closing them quietly; the building echoes and we were awake until the early hours listening to clanging doors. Finally, in the negative part of this review, there was not a 'full set of utensils' as per the 'welcome' book, but 2 each of plates, dishes, mugs, pint glasses, spoons, forks, knives & teaspoons. If we'd wanted to make a meal it would not have been possible. The bin lid came off in the hand, obviously already broken. On the plus side cupboards in the room, fridge, tv, kettle and microwave were all of fairly good quality and reasonably new. Toilets and shower rooms were beautifully tiled and fitted and very clean. We booked for two nights but couldn't face the second and left early.
