Well situated in the centre of the City

Posted Sep 16, 2014
Pros: Not much
Cons: Just about everything.
Location: Gloucester Cathedral is just breath taking and well worth a visit, we also enjoyed the very well referbished old dock area with it's many restaurants.
On checking in we where asked to fill in a registration form, of the several questions we where asked to answer there was " did we require breakfast " and "did we require a news paper" we answerd in the positive to both. When we asked later where the breakfast room was we where told that the hotel was now under new management and that we could no longer have breakfast! Needless to say we did not receive our news paper the following morning either. The room was clean and adequate however the bath room door latch did not work so keeping the door closed was not possible. All in all we had a great time in this ancient City despite the very mediocre hotel.

Do not stay here under any circumstances

Posted Aug 24, 2014
Pros: Any good qualities are drowned out by their heinous treatment of me.
Cons: Don't call the police on innocent customers who have done nothing wrong.
Location: Location is central and quite convenient. But then again, is it convenient to be a suspect in a criminal investigation?
This hotel is in a great, central location and the facilities are what you would expect given the price... However the good aspects of this establishment are completely drowned out by their horrific treatment of paying customers. I stayed at this hotel for two nights and checked out after a pleasant stay. About an hour later, I received a phone call from the hotel informing me that a pillow and a blanket were missing from my room and that I had 30 minutes to return the property or they would call the police. I explained that there had to be a mistake and that I hadn't taken anything and asked that they please check their inventories and question their staff before calling the police. The woman informed me that because I was the only person staying in the room I was responsible for the missing items. I asked to speak to her manager and she said that he wasn't there to take my call. I asked that she have him call me the next time he was in and she said she would. I never received a call from the manager. The next day I was called by the Gloucester Police who informed me that I was under investigation for missing property from the hotel. In addition an extra £50 was taken from my credit card (without informing me). I have tried to contact the hotel many times to ask for the money back as I haven't taken anything and they have not returned my calls. I would never recommend this hotel under any circumstances. Please do not stay here!!!!!

Helpful staff couldn't overcome poor environment

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: The staff did their best to help and remained polite in trying times for them and us. So did we.
Cons: The wardrobes! Even the replacement room had just three hangers. Telephone instructions. Room to Room is a guessing game. Much better sound insulation
Location: We liked Gloucester. The cathedral is great and the historic docks lovely on a sunny afternoon and evening. The Cotswolds around Painswick are superb.
We had booked two rooms for two nights in this relatively inexpensive hotel in the centre of town on a Saturday night. Our expectations were low and they weren't met. There was a wedding party in full swing. It was nice to see them enjoying themselves but the disco felt it was happening in one of our rooms. The other room vibrated gently from the hum of what I thought was air conditioning. The manager assured me it wasn't aircon because the hotel had none. It was, he said, the kitchen fan and would be switched off at 9 p.m. I asked to be moved but the receptionist said all the other rooms were full of wedding guests and they had been placed above the dance floor. 'If I move you, you'll have a terrible time from the noise,' she said. Reluctantly I stayed put and went to unpack. I opened the wardrobe, just a tall slim box in effect, and looked for somewhere to hang and lay my clothes. There was nothing. Not just no hangers, but no bars for hangers and no shelves for anything else. The 'wardrobe' was just a carcass. I tried to telephone reception but the phone had nothing to indicate which number I should use, so I went down. My travelling companion, in the really noisy room, had by now been moved to a room at the top of the hotel where staff lived. I was moved to another room, too, despite what the receptionist had said earlier. The wedding did it's worst, but we slept well in the new rooms. The next day we were told we had to change again. We asked for a refund and left.

trip to see tall ships

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: location, historic area
Cons: needs cleaning up downstairs and picking up the litter outside!
Location: near quays and cathedral
Have stayed here before...the bar downstairs is getting a bit tired and grubby (like most of Gloucester) but upstairs is good. Excellent value for money! Cannot be beaten in Gloucester, especially as you get a £3 deal on parking all day

Nice comfortable hotel

Posted Jul 5, 2014
Pros: Location near the historic docks area and within easy walking distance of the cathedral and the railway and bus stations
Cons: wifi signal, coverage at the desk
Location: easy to visit historic docks area, cathedral and other sights in this beautiful part of England
There must have been staffing problems when I stayed at this hotel, maybe some people who worked at the hotel were on vacation: often there was no one at the desk. The wifi signal in my room was weak. I suggest the hotel provide information in the room about wifi (I asked a woman at the desk who looked up the password on her iPhone). It was hot and I would have liked a fan. Then I discovered there was a fan in the closet. These are relatively small things - though it would have been annoying if I had needed to get a lot of work done using internet since the signal was weak.

Small rooms

Posted Jul 7, 2012
The single rooms are very small with a tiny shower room.
