A Beautiful Hotel - Highly recommendedPosted Apr 7, 2015 on Hotels
Spent a little more upgrading to a four poster room. Was not disappointing. Was more of a suite. Really impressed. Beautiful grounds and surrounding area. Breakfast was a refreshing change. Not a free for all buffet, but individually cooked to your order. Will stay again. Thoroughly impressed

Beautiful on the outside....Posted Mar 25, 2015
It's a beautiful building on the outside, but less so on the inside. Our room was terribly hot and stuffy, even with no heating on in March, and there wasn't a way of securing the window ajar - and it opened literally at ground level (we were in the basement). Plus the bed was very small and the hot tap didn't turn fully off. Nice staff and delicious food, plus lovely gardens and a glorious position, however!

Comfortable traditional hotelPosted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: Appearance, pleasant surroundings, room was already warm when I arrived.
Cons: Nothing significant
Location: Easy access from M5. Nice countryside around. Pleasant walks. Was there on business so didn't investigate further.
Impressive old building, but most of the rooms seem to be in a modern annex. My room was warm and comfortable. the only difficulty was fitting the chair in front of the desk to work on my laptop. (The bed was rather close) The Internet access was excellent and unusually good for a "free" service. The hotel is in pleasant extensive grounds, and there is a pleasant walk along the canal just out the back. Nice and relaxing after a hectic day. The restaurant was good, but you'd have to go out for a light or a cheap snack! The included breakfast was excellent. The cost (apart from the restaurant) was close to the chain hotel I often use, and so this made a refreshing change.

Nice placePosted Feb 18, 2015
Pros: Nice bay style window with a view across canal and countryside. Well situated for Slim Bridge, Wales and forest of Dean
Cons: Web site not working, lay out a bit mess mash (not much you can do with building lay out) friendlier larger bar with a better selection of beers.

Most staff very friendly, bar crap, food ok, but a bit expensive. Room out dated and needs refurnishing (well warn) some room were being refitted, pity we didn’t have one.

Room small. Bed uncomfortable. Peeling paintwork. Staff generally competent and friendly. Dinner not too bad. Breakfast good.

Quiet hotel with well kept gardensPosted Nov 4, 2014
Our welcome was friendly, helpful and efficient. We booked an evening meal in the dining room. We had an aperitif in the lounge bar beforehand with excellent and friendly service. A good selection of wine and a good real ale. Our meal was efficiently served and was very tasty. The bedroom was clean and had everything that we required. We will be returning and have already recommended it to friends
