Fleece is Great!Posted Jun 23, 2015
Pros: Everything you would expect of a modern (pub) hotel, yet the Fleece is hundreds of years old!
Location: Everything is within walking distance.
Friendly, helpful, and polite staff. Would stay there again.

Very comfortable stay in a lovely market townPosted Apr 11, 2015 on Hotels
A very pleasant two-night stay right in the heart of Cirencester on the market square. Cirencester is an ancient Roman town which has been populated ever since and which was an important focus for the wool trade. The town still boasts many high quality boutiques and independent shops of the kind which have ceased to be viable in many other towns in England. Staff were mostly very attentive (a little less so at breakfast on the second day). As our stay was problem-free, we didn't need to call on them. The bed was very comfortable, the room itself was a little mundane but the building as a whole has been refurbished recently in a sensitive way that still retains a lot of character. Like most British hotels with character there are a number of little steps up and down to cope with floors at different heights before you get to your room. There is also no elevator. This does mean a bit of lugging luggage which I'm sure staff would assist with if needed – we were fine without assistance. As one might expect from a town founded twenty centuries before the invention of the motor car, parking is a bit of a squeeze. The hotel does offer limited on-site parking at the rear but be prepared to test your reversing skills on entry or exit. The market place in front of the hotel only offers paid-for parking for up to one hour and some days parking is restricted due to the market. There is a large long-stay pay and display car park within 400m of the hotel rear.

Nice hotel brilliant locationPosted Apr 5, 2015
Lack of car parking. Only a few spaces at hotel if full you have to pay for parking at pay and display. A notice mentioned getting parking permit from hotel but had apparently all been stolen.

hime from homePosted Mar 30, 2015 on Hotels
Another enjoyable stay at The Fleece. Comfortable, welcoming and friendly. A varied well-priced menu. The only disappointment was that no-one appeared to check the mugs in the room which did need washing a small oversight which won't prevent me from staying again. Truly a home from home.

Noisy RoomPosted Mar 29, 2015
Room back onto a small outside quadrangle that was used by smokers on a regular basis. Not only did this cause unpleasant smells, but it was also very noisy even with the windows shut. Also, was woken by very noisy room next door at about 2.30 am. Noise went on for an hour. Again noise was reverberating around the quad from their open window. Even with our single glazed window shut it was unbearable.

Five star servicePosted Mar 28, 2015 on Hotels
The Fleece is a piece of history! It is an ancient building, now renovated to be a comfortable hotel but with a few of the features of an old building - poor sound insulation, creaky floors and no elevators. But the compensation is a great bedroom and bathroom and food that is truly wonderful. Staff were very helpful and kind, though I did feel a few standard operating procedures might have helped things along a bit - but couldn't fault their warm hearts!

Cheltenham Festival StayPosted Mar 12, 2015
Pros: Staff, Breakfast and comfortable room
Cons: Get rid of the dairystix in the rooms. They may be cheaper but on this and previous experience they are dreadful.
Location: Cirencester looks interesting and Cheltenham racecourse and the Cotswolds are very close by.
We stayed here for a night prior to travelling to Cheltenham the following day. The room was initially fairly small but cosy and relaxing, but on opening the door to the bathroom it goes down the stairs to a lovely big shower room. Didn't find any mould growing which must be difficult as parts of the bathroom are standard walls and ceilings as its an old building full of character so must be well looked after. Nice bathroom, nice bedroom with quality bed and covers and pillows. Had a great sleep. Breakfast was served downstairs and the staff couldn't have been more attentive and service was quick. All really good. All staff very friendly and helpful. Would totally recommend this Inn to anyone.
