“Relaxing Stay at the Ramada Caravela”

The first hotel we stayed at in Goa was a dump, so the Ramada Caravela was like an oasis by comparison. We were traveling as a couple (29 and 32 years old), from Los Angeles. More than anything, as a visitor to Goa and India, you have to re-adjust your expectations. With 75% of India's population in poverty, most of their population's idea of first-class service is much different than the average American's. The Ramada Caravela is a nice enough hotel - probably built in the late 80's or early 90's. Pretty much a self-contained compound. The pool was nice, the beach was cool, and the staff was friendly. Especially Susana at the front desk and Dipak at the bar. There are a few restaurants to walk to - about 200 yards away from the entrance of the hotel, otherwise, you're basically captive in the resort, which was fine with us. The gym was brand new, and we used it often. The king bed in our room was basically two twins put together - - not entirely uncomfortable, but the ridge in the middle was noticable. The par 3 golf course was kind of fun as well. Overall, we enjoyed the Ramada Caravela - I would recommend it. Probably would get bored with more than a 4 night stay though.....

“Good Price, But You Get What You Pay For”

Stayed 4 nights in November 05. Wonderful staff were friendly and courteous at all times. Room was clean, but spartan and a bit run down. Breakfast buffet was good (both south Indian and western options), but all tables were outside. Weather was beautiful, but I'd have preferred an indoor option. Dinner buffet was impressive! Internet access was poor, and meant using their office computer.

As a resort it has all the normal features. On the beach, inviting swimming pools, pool bar, beach bar... etc. The facilities are getting very tired. TV reception is crackly, rooms are basic, wooden chairs around the pool are falling apart, food is nothing special. Another issue we had was with the monopoly they have on the local taxi drivers. An example: It cost us 650 R to get from the airport to the resort using the prepaid service at the airport. However from the resort the price was 1300 R? We tried walking away from the resort to find out other taxi costs and all of the taxi's we stopped we using the same hotel price card. Once you are there you stuck paying resort prices. Thank you beachshacks for making our food and drink more affordable.

“Bad location”

The hotel is way down South. It is too expensive to travel anywhere from this hotel. It is very very difficult to find, when you have your own car. Excellent property. If it was in the North by Baga or Panjim, I will definitely go back. One back point of the hotel is that they don't have elevators, normally i wouldn't mind, but when you are carrying a 12kg baby around, it's a problem.
