“Great views & friendly people”
Great amenities, views and friendly people. You never have to leave the resort because there's so much you can do. The hotel itself is outdated but well kept. This was our second visit and we intend to go again.
“Nothing exceptional...”
I smelled Chlorine from the pool the moment I entered the door of the lodge. The room and bathroom was exceptionally small for what I was expecting at a "resort." No internet. Clock did not work. Two hardback chairs and a small table were in the room. The restaurant was VERY expensive, but the view was very good. The bed was VERY good, with lots of pillows. Good TV, except there was no TV listings. You had to go through all the channels to find anything. The outside views were breath-taking! The inside pool was fine. We heard a lot of noise above us. It was about 10 miles into Gordonsville for meals. OK visit though nothing special.
“Room Heater Kept Us Up All Night”
The staff was pleasant, the restaurant food okay, and the rooms were clean. We hardly slept a wink though because the room heaters sounded like jet engines. If we turned them down and bundled up, we could still hear the air handlers right outside our windows. We theorized that the sound was reverberating off the cinderblock walls of an outbuilding directly across from our wing of the lodge. Each bed had 4 pillows from which to choose, but they were all the same - fat and soft. We regretted not bringing our pillows from home (and some ear plugs). Perhaps a different wing of the lodge would have been quieter. The property is gorgeous. We considered staying in one of the resort's rental cabins on vacation until we learned that dogs are not permitted.
“"It Was Okay"”
The resort has lots to offer including boating, horseback riding, golfing and more. It is a little out of the way but the setting is very nice. Closest city is about 30 miles away. Not much open after 9 or 10 during the week. The time of year we went was not good. I think this is more of a summer vacation area.
“Old, old resort”
We had only a one-night stay and were in the lodge and not the cabins. The lodge has seen its day. The activity area was old and worn. The guest room was fresh but also quite dated. The grounds were very lovely. The staff was not very helpful. I asked about the computer next to the check-in desk and whether if I could use it for email. The response was "yes, if you can get it to work!". I could not and was sure that the staff behind the desk was not going to solve the problem. The restaurant had good food but the room was cold for dinner. For breakfast, we sat next to an outside door that patrons used often and kept the room chilly.
“A dump in a beautiful setting”
Beautiful grounds with lots of activities to do on over a 1,000 acres. The hotel was a dump with paper thin walls, with a crappy restaurant. If you think that Applebees is gourmet, then you might like the food selection and cafeteria quality of the cooking. The place is part of a large timeshare facility that caters to and appeals to the lowest common denominator. Really skid row.
“We do not recommend this resort!”
We own a time share and have traded it for many places world wide so we have a great amount of knowledge about what to expect in the accommodations. The area is beautiful as was the building we stayed in. However, we were very disappointed in the room itself. The room was very small, about 10 X 12 with a queen bed which took up most of the room. There was a nice TV sitting on a built in chest. The bathroom was very small with a tiny counter. What upset us the most was the fact that the only place to sit was on a straight back kitchen chair. There was no room for anything larger than that. After traveling for many hours, we wanted a place to sit and relax. The only place we could do that was on the bed and that is never as comfortable as an over stuffed chair. We realize the resort is geared toward the people that are there to enjoy the horses and outdoor activities, but even after a days' riding, it would be good to have a comfortable chair to sit in. There is a resturant in the main building and although it was a bit expensive, it was very good. However, there is no where else you can eat close by so you are forced to eat there and pay whatever prices they charge. The staff that we met were very courteous, and the place was very clean. Our stay was just for one night, as we thought this was a hotel instead of a resort. We ended up with two funds holds on our account and still do not know if we were charged the right amount. Our overall experience was not a good one.
“Extremely poor service”
Rates were high and service was terrible. We couldn't check in until after 4:00; we got a two bedroom cabin that was outdated yet comfortable. They provided NO housekeeping during our stay. I even called and they said that is only done when we leave. No refills of coffee packets for our room; had to call to get towels restocked; our keys wouldn't work the next day so had to drive to office to get corrected. Flusher broke on stool, call early morning before leaving for day to get fixed, when we returned at 10:00 in the evening no one had come to fix it. I called the front desk and they had no record of us needing this service. Sent someone after the call but this was again at 10:00 at night had to wait for stool to be fixed. Not pleased with the service and will not go back.
