Room was massive, had everything you'd expect. We actually got a 4-bed family room for the same price as a double. Staff were good, left luggage was good, breakfast was predictably (Europeanly) awful. Location is great for walking around Madrid.

Whilst simplistic this hotel is excellent value for money and served as an excellent base for our short stay in Madrid. Within a couple of minutes walk to the main hotspots and a metro station on the doorstop i would definately recommend staying.

This is a lovely hotel, it is a little dated but was perfect for what we wanted and the location was a short distance from the metro so easy to get around although there are two streets with similar names but we only made a mistake once!

We stayed for more than one week.
Entrance: no bellboy to help and no platform for rolling luggage (you must lift it up by your own)
Reception desk: some times interns are in charge and not well versed in hospitality details (mile nails). Most reception staff is well trained about the city attractions and are very pleasant (they also make concierge tasks per your request).
Elevators: Only two for the whole building and for a four guests with one luggage.
Decorations: The thematic experience with poems and words everywhere added a unique feature. The colors of the walls and the hallways red carpet were inviting. Original architecture details are in place (some corridors doors from olde Madrid can still be seen as well as the old elevator).
Bedroom: good location in a corner with wide windows and a wide balcony (the room was not one of those with a terrace). Bathroom was also big and well separated from the room includes tub, shower room and washing room with modern elements. Includes rolling sofa and feet rest bench. Closet is relatively small (only for one luggage)
Bed and linens: huge bed, white linens of 400, good towels of all sizes, some days perfectly white, other days, old worn white.
Views: was toward the side off the Gran Via (more quiet although interesting).
Breakfast: continental and varied (what would be needed for a walk during the whole morning).
Restaurant and lounge: +A1, René and Fabio very, professional, friendly and accommodating.

This is the second time I have stayed at Hotel Santo Domingo - it is no longer Mercure but Be Live now but I did not notice a difference at all. The staff I dealt with all spoke Spanish and English and they were all polite, helpful and efficient in their jobs. The room was kept clean and tidy by the cleaning staff and I had no issues at all.
I love that all of the rooms are decorated differently and all to an interesting theme. There are two parts to the hotel and we were in the older part - although there could be some general improvements made to improve the condition or the rooms, these did not impact on my holiday at all - just little niggles. In a city like Madrid, the hotel is the place you should be spending the least amount of time!
There is a rooftop bar and pool as well as a restaurant within the hotel - I cannot comment on these as I did not use them.
Overall, I am definitely pleased with my visit to Santo Domingo and I will definitely be back in the very near future.
Thank you :-)

Known as the street that never sleeps, Gran Via is one of Madrid’s main shopping and entertainment districts and a hub of the city’s nightlife. Bordered on one end by the grand Cibeles fountain and at the other by the stately Plaza de España, the wide boulevard is lined with stunning examples of early-20th-century architecture.
