First Howard Johnson's Off Highway

Posted Jul 2, 2015
The walkways are crumbling and you might trip. The room was furnished nicely but cramped.Very moldy smell. There is a railway across the street and trains run all night. There is a gate that leads to a Country & Western club, and also a strip club next door.Hard to sleep. The desk clerk was very nice and let us in at 1:00 a.m..

Excellen Reference for Fellow Travelers

Posted Jul 1, 2015
Pros: Everything. (Please see comments above.)
Cons: Nothing. (We realize that renovations are on-going and in process. They are making wonderful progress in the renovations.)
Location: (Please see comments above.)
We were very pleased with our recent stay at Howard Johnson in Flagstaff. The location was perfect. We were one mile from the Lowell Observatory which was the reason for our visit to Flagstaff. The staff at the front desk and the housekeepers were friendly, pleasant, and helpful. The room was very clean and quiet. The room furnishings were very attractive. The TV selections were large and varied. In all, we were very comfortable with our short stay and pleased that we selected Howard Johnson on Rt. 66 in Flagstaff.

Do Not stay here with children

Posted Jul 1, 2015
Construction at 8:00pm. Bar next door with fighting in parking lot in the middle of the night. Poor access to bathroom cramped space. AC not functioning properly. Poor excuse for breakfast.

Needs major upgrade

Room ok to stay but the coffee maker was dirty. Very strong smell of cleaning chemicals in the room. No elevator. One staircase was under construction we had to use one far from our room.

needs work/updating/cleaning/mold removal

Posted Jun 25, 2015
Pros: the bed was good. my wife's back makes that decision
Cons: just need to get mold problem fixed. The bathroom window has a bullet hole in it. Small caliber.
Location: we we're just driving through. we didn't do anything while we were there.
we made reservations shortly before we got there. It was fine for the night as we we're driving in from Tucson. Bed was pretty good. There was a mold problem in the room. We were stuffed up by morning.. You can smell it. Free breakfast was pretty much a joke, we went next door. Good food, I recommend it!

Good for the money

If you want luxury this is not the place for you. In Flagstaff, during tourist time, you get what you pay for! The room was clean, facilities dated and overall it is an OK place to spend the night.

Not up to Howard Johnson standard

Old building and new remodeling was not done right. Showers make a flood on the bathroom floors. Also no shelves for shampoo in the showers. Will not ever stay there again.

Nice hotel for an overnight.

Posted Jun 21, 2015
This is an older hotel, but nice. There is no pool, so be aware if you are looking to take a swim. The room was clean and quiet, but we were as far from the bar and train tracks as you could be.

Good for the price.

Posted Jun 11, 2015
Pros: Clean room and free breakfast.
Location: We went to the Grand Canyon, couple of hours drive from the hotel but we were prepared for the drive and enjoyed the views on our way there.
We were only there for two nights. Good hotel for the price. My friends complained about the train, which is constantly passing by, I was fast asleep and it did not bother me. Staff was professional, although the receptionist could have been a bit more friendly. We asked if there were any extra beds available, she literally only said "no" and turned right back to her computer, a bit dismissive of our question. Other than that this hotel was ok. I would recommend it if you are on a budget or if you are just staying overnight. Personally, however, next time I will spend a little bit more to stay at a nicer hotel....with better customer service.
