OK hotel close to Grand Canyon

Posted Oct 22, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Cleanliness of rooms. Restaurant needs better management
Location: Grand Canyon is nearby --WOW!!
Great location but dingy towels and sheets. Room was not very clean or appealing. Staff was helpful, but not sure why the room was not clean. Common areas are very nice. Food service lacking due to insufficient staffing.

Stay across the street Best Western/Holliday Inn

Posted Oct 22, 2014
Pros: The decoration in the lobby and the outside. It's a nice-lloking hotel, but the furniture in the rooms doesn't match and it's a bit old and scratched.
Cons: Remodel the rooms. Add spa tubs. Put fridges and microwaves in all rooms since the dining options in the city are not so good.
Location: Not a lot of good dinning options around, but if you have a car you are very close to the South rim of the Grand Canyon. Not much to do there.
My husband and I were not pleased with our stay for several reasons: no fridge in the room, but after we requested it, they brought us one, which was dirty. In the drawer there was dirty yellow water and fruit seeds. When I called the front desk to complain, they said they would send someone right away, which I declined since it was 10pm and we were tired. The next day they didn't clean it either. Every time we went back to the room, the keys would no longer work. Apparently they demagnetize easily, then we would have to go down to the front desk to re-magnetize the room key- quite a hassle! The people check us in are not rude or anything, but they are not very efficient. When we checked in, they had a hard time finding our reservation even after we both spelt out our names. Over the phone the same thing happened, they could find our name, so I gave them my room number and I told them that we were in there, then they found it. As for the concierge service, I don't think they have one. When we inquired about two tours that we had heard about, they couldn't give us information, instead they sent us to the Grand Canyon airport, which was nearby, to find out more information. It turns out the tour from the airport is a helicopter one, but we wanted to go on the train tour. At the gift shop they sell a lollipop with a scorpium inside, so when I asked the lady if the scorpium could be eaten, she said she didn't know, "people buy it and leave". We were totally disappointed.

We were pleased with the cozy atmosphere in the lobby and the cleanliness of our room. The choices on the breakfast buffet could be expanded and improved. The restaurant has a good dinner menu, but expect slow service.

Very nice hotel

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Presentation outside and inside.
A wonderful hotel. You have a wilderness feel as you enter the large lobby. It is located at the entrance to the town of Tusayan. The restaurant looked very nice, but was more expensive than what we wanted. There was a nice take out lunch I saw people carrying. It cost about $14 and included sandwich, chips, cookie, and had a nice reusable insulated lunch bag. It looked fun. They had a good gift shop in the hotel. It was very relaxing to enter and to just sit in the lobby.

Not clean

I stayed for only 1 night and right off the bat, the room was not clean. The pillows had hair and the sheets had food particles.

Comfortable hotel near Grand Canyon

Posted Oct 20, 2014
It's a nice and comfortable hotel for a quick 1-2 night trip to the Grand Canyon, and only a 10-12 minute drive to the South Rim. The other more popular resorts (El Tovar) are usually sold out for a last minute trip, and while the Grand hotel isn't all that luxurious it made for a nice trip. We mostly went to hike the Canyon and didn't need anything fancy, so this place was perfect for that. The outside of the building and lobby areas are really nice, while the rooms are mostly average. But for a last minute booking, stay here!

Overpriced hotel, but that's the price you pay to be close to the Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon Visit

Posted Oct 18, 2014
Pros: The room was comfortable and clean
Cons: The staff personalities
Location: The facility is as close as other hotels/motels outside of the Grand Canyon Park. They are all on the same strip.
We chose this over Best Western which is just across the street basically on the price .When we checked in we were told there would be a $25.00 per day change placed on our credit card for "incidentals". When asked what they may be we were told that we MAY order something from room service, etc. .The staff that we encountered gave the impression that they would rather be some place else. Unlike the staff we met on our other stays on this trip, they appeared to be "cold". No real smiles or happy greetings.

Posted Oct 18, 2014
Pros: Proximity to grand canyon
Cons: Old and dated and not great service
Not much else to write about! Close to the canyon but the rooms and property are dated, the service was ok and the restaurant wasn't much good!
