Really excellent hotel in a nice small town

Posted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: Everything
Location: Next door to the Judy Garland birthplace and Oz museum. Short drive to hiking/paddling by Mississippi river.
A really nice experience; very nice room, nice pool and spa, excellent continental breakfast, several nice restaurants within walking distance. And complimentary coffee and cookies 24 x7 in the lobby.

Very nice hotel. Was the same price or cheaper than a hotel down the street that has no pool. Good quality and service. We enjoyed our stay!

Pros: Great breakfast. I liked the added touch of the staff calling the first night we checked in to see if we needed anything.
When we checked in, the desk person recommended the motel restaurant next door. We appreciated not having to drive to another restaurant, plus the food was excellent. We really appreciated the staff checking with us that night to see if we needed anything.

Pros: The night shift lady was personal and attentive.
The kids wrestling team was a bit of noise to contend with.

Wasted money

We reserved a room for one night at $150 as we were in town for a basketball tournament and figured a relaxing evening in the hot tub was a fun idea and a nice little getaway! Upon our arrival the hot tub was out of service. We were told it wasn't going to be repaired. We asked about notification prior to arriving and were told the sign on the door and at the front desk was adequate notification. We were further told no discount would be given as discounts were not given for free amenities. I don't know how it's considered free at $150 a night. I've stayed in far better and bigger hotels at much less $! We will not be choosing this hotel in the future!

Friendly and welcoming

Pros: The staff was extremely pleasant. I enjoyed the pool area, swam every evening and then lazed in the whirlpool for a while!
Cons: I think that they could replace the carpeting in the hallway as it was buckled and just looked as though it was time for a new one!
Location: The hotel is conveniently located in Grand Rapids, next door to the Judy Garland museum and close to shops and restaurants.
My husband and I took a 3 day trip to Grand rapids to view the fall colors and do some hiking and biking. We have a small dog and looked for a place that would take pets. We were very pleased with the response from the reception desk on arrival at the hotel. When we told them that we had a dog with us they gave us a room on the ground level close to the side door so that it would be convenient for us to let her in and out. They were very friendly and gracious. The room was clean and well appointed with a nice view of the grassy area at the back of the hotel. The breakfast was very good, plenty of choices, cereals, yogurt, pastries, etc, waffles and a different hot item every day. The mornings were cool so they had the fire going in the dining area which made it feel cozy and homey. There was coffee, tea, hot chocolate and pastries in the lobby available at any time of day or night. They would even make up a bag breakfast should you not be able to take advantage of the free breakfast.

Pros: Comfort, room contents ~ frig, microwave, easy chair ~ ~ great breakfast!
It was easy to stay there. One ice machine was out, but the gal at the front desk directed me to another one.
