“not impressed”

It's a nice place. Good location. I smelled urine in my room. It was masked with a scent which I found out later that is was the cleaning solution. It was overwhelming. I had to air the room out for hours. Your continental breakfast are the bomb.

“Convenient in Grass Valley”

I came to the Best Western Grass Valley to attend and participate in the KVMR Celtic Festival. I didn't have musch time to spend at the hotel. After day 1 of the fest, I checked in and things went smoothly. I got a comfortable room right across from the pool. My wife and I went to old town Grass Valley to walk around and have aglass of wine. There are at least three strip mall commercial areas within walking distance. Old Town is 3 exits doen the freeway. The Nevada County Fairgrounds is a short drive. Directly across from the hotel is Paulette's for a ghood breakfast, and 1 block further is Perko's so getting food is easy. PLus, Old Town has some nice dining options. I'd recommend it for cleanliness and convenience.

Area recommendations

I'd recommend the downtown (Old Town) areas of both Grass Valley and Nevada City, which is a scant 3 miles down the freeway, for its nice selction of independent stores and eating areas. It's a good area for Cornish Pasties, wine, beer, and down-home goodness.

“Needs staff training improved”

This hotel was fine for a short stay. Our room backed up to the freeway but didn't have a real noise problem. The room was clean and probably one of the better places to stay in the area. One negative we found was that one morning we came back from having their complimentary breakfast and found the housekeeper already in our room cleaning. We said we would be out of there in a few minutes but she said that's fine and continued to make the bed. Then she went over to clean the sink. My husband said he wanted to brush his teeth and she said no problem and stepped back slightly while he did that. Common courtesy would have been for her to go on to another room when we walked in and come back to ours later. We should have probably asked her to come back but we were leaving again in a few minutes anyway so let it go. The room with the toilet was separate from the area with the sink and my husband said he needed to use the bathroom, thinking then she would leave. He went in and closed the door and when he came out she was back cleaning the sink. It is hard to believe that her training didn't include giving the guests privacy in their own room. Other than this incident it was reasonably priced, clean and attractive, offered an adequate breakfast, and had fresh baked cookies every afternoon. The pool and hot tub were out of commision and we felt that that should have been made clear on their website. A better than average place for the area but not special.

Area recommendations

Just about anywhere in the Grass Valley/ Nevada City area would be fine if one is exploring this part of the Gold Country.

Nice area, Great atmosphere, nice in room amemities. Large room, plenty of bathroom counter space. My kids (and me) were excited to get complimentary, fresh baked cookies while in the (short) line during check in. Breakfast was awesome, lots to choose from. Great coffee, and tea too. trees in grounds were beautiful. Store right across street. (May 2011, swimming pool/spa being rennovated, my kids were sad, though I thought weather would be too cold anyway). I loved the hotel!!!

Area recommendations

anywhere in the cute, quaint town of Grass Valley seems great! Though (we traveled through Toulare, CA and stayed in DaysInn there), THAT was aweful... no hot water, broken appliances, bad/noisy area, terrible "continental" breakfast (day old/ or probally week old/ danishes and powdered orange juice/Tang and apple juice-like drink), but they had friendly staff @ least, that was good.

Getting there

if you are traveling south of Grass Valley, I would not recomend staying in Toulare, CA... especially not the DaysInn. Staff there was friendly, that was ALL that hotel had remotely going for it.
