Gorgeous hotel, superb value.Posted Jun 9, 2015
Pros: Gorgeous buildings, gardens and views, authentic Tuscan experience, helpful manager. Pool would be nice after a hot day, though we did not use it.
Cons: Expedia told us to check in at Grassina town square -- this is wrong, just go directly to the hotel. Wifi signal weak in our rooms, ok near office.
Location: Walk along country roads, through a fruit orchard/olive grove, past a 16th century shrine. Town of Grassina has a few restaurants, bakeries, markets.
My daughter and I chose this location for a visit to Florence, as we only had a few days in Tuscany and wanted a taste of the countryside as well as the city. If you're on foot, access to the town (Grassina) is a 35-45 minute bus ride from Florence, then a 1 1/2 km walk uphill from the town square -- easy if you're a good walker, but challenging with luggage! If you're not a good walker and are not renting a car, you might want to take a cab from Florence, which might cost from 30-50 euros, depending on airport vs train station, traffic, and the honesty of the driver! That said, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and the manager was very kind and as helpful as he could be with his limited English. The buildings and gardens were immaculate and completely authentic, there were tables and chairs everywhere for outdoor meals or relaxing with a glass of wine, and wonderful views in every direction. If you like luxury travel, the setting, buildings and gardens would live up to your expectations, though you might find the kitchen and furnishings a little simple for your taste. It was perfect for ours. Breakfast fixings were only Melba toast, jam and Nutella, but they also provided coffee, tea, and olive oil, and it's easy to get more supplies in Grassina or Florence. I would love to come back for at least a week, rent a car, and use this place as a home base for day trips to Pisa, Siena, etc.

Incredibly gorgeous "country" locationPosted Jul 20, 2014 on Hotels
The 3 nights at this villa hotel were the best of my 2 week vacation to Italy - from Rome to Milan. The owners were wonderfully cordial and helpful. A short walk down the hill gets you to a small city with delicious food and wine and shops. A castle is your neighbor. Walking the rural roads through the hills was delightful. I will return to this location - next time for weeks not days.
