Most of what I could ask for

Posted Apr 20, 2015
Pros: Comfortable bed; able to control temperature of room-slept like a baby. Mini-fridge.
Cons: Addition of shade for bathroom window & microwave in room.
Location: Excellent location; extremely close to pancake rocks and blowholes.
Stunning location; neat, clean & spacious accommodation & friendly staff. Did not like that there was no shade to pull over bathroom window which was open from other side of window screen and bathroom could thus be seen into from outside...uncomfortable feeling for woman traveling alone; otherwise, would recommend without reservation.

I'd look elsewhere!

Posted Apr 9, 2015
Pros: The view
Cons: Staff training and customer service, compensation/lower rate for lower quality room
We were really disappointed by this hotel, especially as we were on our honeymoon, the staff working in the evening didn't seem to know what they were doing, with problems with parking, and problems with our dinner reservation. Our room appeared to be one of the only ones without a balcony and an obstructed view of the sunset and the bed was lumpy. There were a few faults with our room (lights not working and TV not set up properly), but they did fix the TV quickly. Food in the restaurant was average and service wasn't great. The staff member at breakfast was far better and was our only positive experience at this hotel. Check out was slow as there was only one member of staff for a fully booked hotel! Make sure you bring insect repellent as the sand flies can be a problem.

Nichts los Abends in dem Örtchen

Posted Mar 28, 2015

Amazing Coastline

On the beach with some rooms across the road but with ocean views. Some rooms with balconies and some without. Small rooms but adequate and clean with small kitchenette. Great restaurant on site. Great staff. Very helpful.

Perfect location but room was a let down.

Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: The location was fantastic, great views from the room.
Cons: Room 213 needs an overhaul.
Location: Pancake rocks is just up the road, very much worth a look. The location is remote and just breathtaking.
Punakaiki is a beautiful remote location and this hotel is right on the sea front, so our room had the most incredible views. However, the room needed a bit of work, especially in the bathroom, where the ceiling had cracks and plaster falling off, there was a hole in the wall where the shower came out and the sink was cracked - we were in room 213 and I reported this to reception, who said they were not aware. Air con would have been helpful as, in the evening, the sun shone into the room until it set. The staff were very friendly and approachable. The cost of the room was expensive, the most expensive room we stayed in in 3 weeks, including the cities of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, so it felt like they were taking advantage of being a remote location. Pleased with the location and the staff and the food in the restaurant, but felt we didn't get good value for money.

Excellent Location

Posted Feb 20, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Some rooms are on the road. Make sure you ask for one that isn't.
We would stay here again because of its location. The beach is beautiful and the rooms are within sight of it. We had an end room and the wall was screened so we looked out at vegetation. Restaurant was okay.

Great scenery

Secluded location on the beach with spectacular ocean views. The rooms were nice overlooking the water and the restaurant was very good. The west coast of the South Island is amazing offering the best of NZ for pure rugged beauty. We were lucky to have a few days of perfect weather and saw the green flash as the sun set two nights in a row. However it is a bit of a gamble as this is the rainy side. Also bring bug repellant as the sand flies are tiny but leave a very itchy reminder of their presence.

Fantastic view

Posted Feb 6, 2015
Pros: View
Cons: Some form of cover to bedrooms. Give out wifi information when registering. I had to go back for mine and got soaked again. Would also be helpful to
Good sized room with the most superb view and went off to sleep with the sound of waves. I had the room the furthest away from reception which was a long walk with steps. It was outside which would have been lovely in the sun but it was pouring with rain when I arrived so got absolutely soaked on my way to the room. Not a good start. Had dinner and breakfast which were fine but not exceptional.
