Peaceful restful StayPosted Jul 31, 2013
Pros: Clean, quiet, welcoming, professional
Cons: Nothing was fine the way it was
We had a weekend visit to Yosemite and prior to starting our weekend we found this place on Expedia. We were very pleased with this hotel. Peaceful, roomy room, clean. Welcoming atmosphere, the staff was courteous and professional. The breakfast they cooked us the next morning was delicious. We will definitely stay here again.

Country Good-TimesPosted Aug 21, 2012
Pros: Ann, kittens, comfy.
Cons: Breakfast, not so good.
We stopped here for one night on our way to Yosemite. The property is located just outside of town and is a working sheep ranch. The manager Ann and her husband were very warm and friendly. Both are long-time residents of Groveland, a charming historic gold ranch town. The ranch is nicely maintained and very cozy-homey. The best part was the five week old kittens right outside our room. I managed to catch one and kissed its head for at least 20 minutes, until her mommy came looking for her. Not the place for snooty guests but a good country experience for those wanting to get away from the crowds and hectic lifestyle. P.s. Any bad reviews were due to previous managers.

quiet peaceful locationPosted Aug 1, 2012
a rural ranch about 4 miles from Groveland so if you want Saloon and cafes its about 4 miles away too far to walk at night. Didn't know what to think when we saw the outside of the place & the rickety gate - no bar or restaurant its more B&B style, homely place, down to earth types friendly owners, room was comfortable & homely, a nice contrast to hotel chains, & good if you like peaceful place with a deck overlooking sheep meadow.

Beautiful, peaceful hotel.Posted Jul 5, 2012
Pros: Beautiful, peaceful surroundings, friendly caretaker and a night sky which has to be seen to be believed.
Location: Based in a modernised farm building with stunning scenery all round. Nearest town of any size is Groveland, about 5 miles away.
A lovely, peaceful place to stay. Only 45 minutes drive from Yosemite Park and set in quiet countryside about 5 miles from nearest towns and off the main road. The house was very well kept and the caretaker friendly and helpful. Although our room was quite small compared with city hotel rooms, it was big enough for comfort and had a large double bed. The big bonus is the patio leading off the back of the room which has beautiful, uninterrupted views of the meadow, the forest beyond and the mountains beyond that. And the night sky is beautiful. With very little light pollution, an amazing star field is visible. We will definitely use this hotel again if we revisit the area and wholeheartedly recommend it. I would also recommend the Iron Door Saloon in nearby Groveland. Very atmospheric surroundings (reputed to be the oldest saloon in California) with very good food.

king-size bedPosted Jun 18, 2012
A room with king-size bed would make it better. This would help couples to stay.

DisappointingPosted Jun 5, 2012
Pros: no traffic noise
Cons: poor service
Location: over an hour from Yosemite valley.
I picked this place because rates seemed reasonable, and others liked it because it was supposed to be quiet and serene. The first night, the guy who checked people in and out was waiting for another guest to show up. The walls are thin and all connect to the living room, and he had the TV blasting until we woke him up and asked him to turn it down. He did do that. In the middle of the night the dog started barking, and ran across the deck and woke us up. The second night was much quieter. Breakfast was awful except for the packs of instant oatmeal and coffee. There were little baggies on the counter with a defrosted English muffin, or defrosted frozen waffle, or defrosted very fowl-smelling pancakes, all of which were likely in and out of the freezer on a daily basis, whatever wasn't eated by someone. We were told on check in that he would make 1 egg and 1 sausage "but only one" but never saw that. The other guest who arrived apparently had an overflowing toilet at midnight and the employee had told the guest to get the mop himself and clean it up, and was upset that he woke him up for that! So...if you don't mind very unprofessional service, then go ahead and stay here.

Charming and totally cozy, not an hotel thoughPosted Aug 24, 2011
We loved it! Big Creek Ranch is a lovely place, it is a three bedroom house turned into a hotel next to a beautiful meadow and lots of sheeps. The staff (an owner) are incredibly nice and because the place is located 7 miles away from Groveland downtown the night sky is completely astonishing, we even had the chance to watch a "star-rain"! They served a delicious breakfast and the place is really quiet. On the other hand, do not expect the amenities of a big hotel, i.e restaurant or convenience store, actually if you need anything you might have to drive 7 miles to the closest store. We had some troubles finding this "hotel", first because neither our GPS or cellphones worked in the area and second because we were looking for a hotel-size construction and Big Creek Ranch looks more like a house (they do have some signals but we were kind of dumb, we pass just in front twice without notice it). So be alert and don't expect a huge construction! In summary, if you don't mind to be a bit isolated and you like to be in contact with nature you should definitively go for Big Creek!
