Nice hotel, incredible views

Posted Jul 7, 2014
Hotel is nice, the view is spectacular, good are good. Due to its geography (located on a hill), there is not parking lot near the rooms, so we depend on a bus, which is not always clean, also there is not accessible for handicap besides that, it is a beautiful hotel with a nice staff.

The resort had plenty of friendly wildlife (iguanas, monkeys, crabs) but the buffet style food was nothing special, nothing to do on the property besides swim (beach and pool) and eat. Everything entertaining is out in town and its not cheap from the resorts remote location. Beds were terribly uncomfortable and the "free wifi" is only near the pool and in the lobby when it wants to work (7 days there 3 days of working wifi). Would have been better to spend more on a better property.

Be prepared....

The hotel location is great. The pool area is clean and nice. However, the actual hotel rooms are old and outdated. This place has not been updated since at least 1980's. Also, the hotel is located on a cliff. So, you will have to climb a lot of stairs and use their shuttle service in order to get to the main lobby of the resort.

A bad experience

Posted May 5, 2014
When i booked for this hotel, the first thing was to choice a room near the pool and beach (premiun room) that is because i have a baby, so i booked the premiun (when you search for a room using Expedia, you will see that the Premium Room is closer to the pool and beach than other rooms), but sorprise, to arrive at hotel, they give me a room really long for the pool and the is in mountain so. I try to change my room, but they told me that i have paid for a Premium room with a seaview and can not change. My room was dirty, with a wet towel in middle room, dirty bathroom, no drinks in the fridge. About the food, only the breakfast was good. Bad lunch and dinner, no dessert. Snacks only from 11:30 a.m. to 5 pm, if you are hungry after that, go outside to eat. I never come back to this hotel

Great staff, Ok food, not so great rooms

Posted Apr 29, 2014
Pros: The staff, good food.
Cons: Rooms, more space for restaurant. Night show host.
Location: Beautiful Papagayo Gulf. The white sand beach (taking the boat from the hotel). Coco's beach is close by car.
We stayed in Allegro Papagayo from 17th to 19th of April, 2014. We were impressed about the gardens at the entrance, the views and the hotel lobby. Expectations started to go down when we had to board the horrible door-less minibus to our rooms. We were two families. Our friends stayed in the disabled friendly rooms at the pool level and my family stayed in a building one level up from the pool, building #14 I think. Our friends were greeted with a very filthy towel in the bathroom, a smelly and very outdated room. They were disappointed and angry, almost wanting to left the hotel. They didn't because we were paying for their stay. Our experience was not so bad but the very old and small tube TV was an indicator of the age of the facilities. We heard from someone working there that they plan to renew the rooms starting 2015. The staff service was very good most of the time. The night show was a good try to entertain the guests, but the host was tireful, asking so much times to "give us an applause", "give us a cheer", "oh you can try a better cheer", "are you sleepy? try again"... Seriously, he did it so much times that at the end the guests were not paying attention to him and some left the theater. He can do it better by improving his English and by not asking so much times for a better cheer. The rest of the show staff did a good job. The hotel, with a little renovation in the rooms, could give a better experience and value for the money.

Upgrades needed

Posted Apr 7, 2014
Pros: Staff
Cons: Rooms and bathrooms too old
Location: Logistics too far from everything, but this comment applies to the area in general. You need drive 20-30min to any place, nothing walking distance
In need of room remodeling, the beds were old and too hard, the bathroom looked like from the seventies. Some remodeling and more guest activities are definitely needed.

Good IF you are a college student on Spring Break

Posted Mar 18, 2014
Pros: Food and pool was nice.
Cons: Room accommodations and fulfillment of guest requests.
Location: The hotel is located in a very remote location from everything. You can take tours but they are long travel trips from the hotel. Hotel has nothing
My Expedia reservation was not at the hotel when I checked in. I had to forward a copy via email of my Expedia confirmation. When I got to the room I was shocked! Very "Low Rent" dirty, and antiquated. 19" CRT TV, remote control didn't work; bathroom was scummy and dirty and only had 2 towels, and only 2 water glasses, four of us in the room, my wife, my two children, 9 and 2. I ordered more towels, Never got them, I also requested a coffee maker that was suppose to be included in the room, never got one. The AC worked but the wall unit had no vent louvers so the air just blasted out of the bottom. The room door wouldn't lock, maintenance came and fooled around with it and got it working. I was a bit disappointed by this time but not much I could do. The hotel was packed with college kids from Canada. They were drinking the free booze like it was water, they were so drunk they were trying to pick up my wife at the pool. Besides the bad accommodations, the pool was nice and the food was above average. The staff was friendly but never followed through on their promises. I'll never go back there, even after it is renovated. I heard that it is suppose to be renovated in a couple months. The beach also was horrible, black sand, so hot no one wanted to go near it. I am very disappointed because the hotel falsely shows photos of "Superior Room Ocean View" with ornate concrete balcony. But I couldn't find any rooms that had this type of balcony. Very misleading and false info.

Run down and loud

Posted Mar 16, 2014
Inexpensive for an all inclusive but still not worth the money. Room was clean but very old looking and run down - reminded me of many hostel rooms I have stayed in. There two nights and could not imagine staying more. Advertised on expedia as two queen beds but was in fact two double. Pool was very warm and had plastic cups and lots of dirt in it. Very loud music and young loud crowd by the pool. It your looking for a party hotel this is the place. I was not as we were traveling with two young kids. Positives - view from our room of the ocean was georgious, black sand beach was beautiful and we loved seeing the iguanas and monkeys in the beach in the morning. Also fishing trip we took was great. The positives could be had in many other Costa Rican hotels though - stay somewhere else!
