Great hotel...fell short on a couple of items.

Overall, we were very pleased with our stay at the Four Seasons. Two areas of improvement are the service at the pools...I felt like we were putting out the staff when asking for beverages or something to eat. Secondly, the check-out process was not the smoothest. We waited for our luggage for over 45 mins. Granted it was the busiest time for check out/in, however they had plenty of time and they fell short with the communication and getting the bags.

Great for Granddaughter's 13th Birthday Trip!
Posted Jan 31, 2013
Since this is a 5 star resort we did expect good service---however it really exceeded our expectations. The staff was efficient ,friendly and catered to everything we wanted or needed. Our room overlooked the Pacific Ocean and the sound of the waves made for a very relaxing stay! Our 13 year old granddaughter especially enjoyed her 3 tank scuba dive with Opa. We booked all our excursions through the conceirge there. All were great experiences!!! The beach and pool attendents were right there when we arrived with towels, water or other drinks. All restaurants on the property were great!!! The 'howler monkeys' were not in full display, but we did see and hear some several days. This resort has everything anyone would want!!!!

Outstanding Resort!

Pros: Friendliness of the staff
Cons: Red tide warnings restricted beach swimming
Location: Remote location on a long penninsula of the coast of Guanacaste
My wife and I had a wonderful week at this resort, and were able to see a bit of the country as well, with informative, private excursions arranged by the very helpful concierge. The facility was immaculately clean, and the staff was efficient and friendly. You will pay for this level of luxury, but you will not be disappointed!

Pros: amazing service!
Location: 2x the beaches, 2x the fun!
Rooms: they're huge with large patios and I think all of them have ocean views. You're also so close to the ocean you get to hear the waves crashing from your room! Great way to wake up & fall asleep to! Food: Restaurants and room service were all delicious! Yes a bit overpriced, but when you're staying at the Four Seasons you expect it to be, but at least portions are big so you can split entrees and still feel pretty full. Beaches: Having 2 beaches was great! The ocean side was perfect to lay out or swim in without any boats obstructing the beautiful view. The gulf side had all the water sports which are free for hotel guests: paddle boarding, paddle boating, and kayaking! They also have sunset kayak or snorkel tours! Golf: Unfortunately we don't play gulf, but this was ranked one of the best golf resorts in Costa Rica. Wifi: Pay for it or use the computers at the business center for free. Doing the latter forces you to truly spend your time relaxing instead of being on your iphone =) Since we visited during rainy season the hotel had very little occupancy so it was nice to be able to have a pool and hot tub to ourselves most of the time. There are 3 pools & one kiddie pool so plenty of different spots for people. The fitness rooms were great! There isn't much of a hiking path if you want to explore the property, you run on the road that the cars are on. We got to the closest lookout point and then found a wooden staircase wrapping around all the way to the beach.

Good Grief! Four Seasons Papagayo is INCREDIBLE!
Posted Jan 30, 2012 on Hotels.com
Too bad Hotels.com only allows 1500 characters for reviews, because we could write a novel about how special this place is! From the moment we arrived began our truly first class experience, greeted by the hotel's assistant manager and guest services manager- cold towel, fresh juice and warm greetings with sincerely wonderful smiles. We were quickly escorted to our rooms, given the liberty to check-in once we've settled and unpacked. Our villa is beyond exceptional, tropical elegance nestled into the mountain side. The facilities are beyond belief, staff accommodating, professional, engaging and genuinely warm- many knew our names within hours. We had a great day of fishing and the chef was kind enough to prepare it in several different ways for our dinner that evening- by the way, some serious culinary skills! You can't go wrong by staying here- it is super exceptional resort!

Worth every penny.

As any Four Seasons, this one is first class. It's not cheap but the complimentary beach equiptment and activites, make it worth the money. Go kayaking, snorkleing, paddle boarding, or sailing on the beach whenever you feel like it. Service is professional, friendly and attentive without being stuffy. Note that this is a family resort with lots of families as guests. If you are looking for quite romance, it may not be the choice for you.
