Beautiful setting for a great family vacation

Posted Aug 21, 2014
Pros: The location: it is close to the airport and in a beautiful setting
Cons: the food is an area that can be improved on, though a great effort is put forth, there needs to be variety.
our family of four including a 17 year old teenager enjoyed this vacation. Hotel is beautifully set up in bungalows, as long as you don't mind iguanas, raccoons and birds ( if you do reconsider Costa Rica), you have a beach, pools, lots of alcohol and acceptable local cuisine (kids menus are available, my 12 year old was not really into fish), if you are looking for wild night life it's not for you. If you want to enjoy a beautiful piece of paradise close to local adventures this is it: we took an awesome day trip full of zip lining, water sliding, horseback riding, mud baths and hot water springs. we would definitely do Hilton Papagayo again. The staff is very attentive and address issues and concerns quickly (we need to be relocated the 1st night due to some plumbing difficulties). Would highly recommend to anyone considering a visit to Costa Rica. Thank you to everyone that made this a wonderful family vacation.

Nice hotel with roomy bungalows overlooking bay

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: Excellent food, fantastic staff. Good amenities. Very nice rooms.
Cons: Evening entertainment was almost non-existent.
Location: Somewhat secluded but quite serene location in Culebra Bay (Golfe de Papagayo). Hotel had two travel services offering excellent day trips.
Had a great time - wish we could have stayed longer. Very nice, if bit secluded, hotel.

Nice resort hotel

Posted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Condition of the room
Location: Excellent tour services to boats, surfing, mountains, volcanos, rain forest - no problems here.
Friendly service, but rooms run down a bit - chipped furniture, one bedside light not working consistently, A/C very loud, problem with shower. Very friendly, attentive service, good food, plenty of activities, beautiful grounds, flowers, landscaping.

Beautiful place

Posted Aug 11, 2014
This place is beautiful. From the rooms to the amazing landscape.. Only downside is there's no club on site.. It's not a party place don't come here if you want to party!!! You will need a car to get to town, it's very far.. If you want to relax/sleep this is it.. Food is ok could be better at the restaurants needs more variety, but the bar snacks are great... Bar guys are amazing!!! Shout out to DAVID he's my main man, but Everyone was exceptional.. Will come back, pls get club that will make this place a 10 star

Excellent hotel for relaxing or adventurous stay!

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Simply amazing.
Cons: Nothing.
This was my first visit to Costa Rica (and also my first overseas vacation with my significant other), and I gotta say I was absolutely not disappointed. First, I felt very safe the whole time so this is not an issue in Costa Rica (as of the date of this review of course). Second, this hotel has all the amenities you can come to expect of any good hotels, so you will not be left wanting for some missing service. Third, the food is amazing! We made sure to eat at every location, but the best one was El Dorado! Every item on the menu was delicious! Even plain steamed/grilled vegetables tasted amazing! I felt like I hadn't eaten tomatoes and cucumbers until I ate there. Fourth, there are a wide variety of things to do there, and you can book on arrival. We did zip lining, jet skiing, and we went on the sunset cruise, each of which was amazing on its own. The latter was particularly memorable, as we got to sail out of Papagayo bay and into the pacific, did snorkeling and got to see and swim with a wide variety of sea critters, walked into some beach caves. The only thing about that is you need to make sure the weather is nice when you do the sunset cruise, because you can then actually see the sun drop into the pacific while on the boat (we didn't get to see that) and the water is clearer and marine life more vibrantly colorful. Lastly, if you are up for it, you can actually take a very long walk on the beach and see other beaches nearby. All in all, well worth it!!

Secluded hotel but unimpressive beach

Posted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: The staff. The location
Cons: More water in the rooms Inform guests of rooms that do not get water. More shuttles to prevent waiting Make sure tour companies are not misleading
Location: On a hill, spear out rooms, near small beach Nothing near by. Coco beach is 20 min cab ride Tamarindo is 2 hr cab ride
The first room they checked us into had a lovely panoramic view but NO water in the faucets. When I told the front desk; they told me that they knew about the problem. I wonder why we were not told about this. We finally got another room, which was quite comfortable and nice and it had water for showers. The hotel is spread out, so there was a lot of waiting around for the shuttle to get from one part of the hotel to the other. The facilities were too far apart to walk in the heat. The beach was small and unimpressive. For some reason, they were very tight on water bottles, so we were dehydrated for most of our stay. The plus: the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The tour package was expensive and misleading. They said we would see the rain forest and natural habitats, but all the activities were hardly organic. (we did the combo) Also, for a full day of activities in the heat, they did not provide any water or hydration. There were also no places to buy water. So overall, a fairly good touristy trip without water.

Decent hotel, close to the beach.

Posted Aug 5, 2014
Pros: Pools, access to the beach, unlimited drinks and friendly staff.
Cons: Rooms could use a little repair. Some cracks in the walls, grout, minor things.
Location: Took advantage of the canopy tour, took about 45 minutes to get there. Totally worth it.
Had a very relaxing vacation. Hotel staff is friendly and accommodating; can't complain about the service. The bed was super comfortable. Grounds are beautiful. Very family oriented place. This is not the place to be if you want to party. Otherwise, my friends and I had a wonderful time and would go back.

Nice hotel

Posted Aug 2, 2014
Ocean view from the rooms, we paid extra for an oceanfront " bungalow". It was actually a duplex on a hill above the ocean, could not get to the water from the room. Room was nice, had an issue with the shower, flooded the bathroom every time you used it, floor did not slope towards drain! Right off the bat we were disappointed, advertised surrounded by rain forest, while the gounds were nice the hotel is surrounded by scrubby, sandy land. Rainforest is south of the hotel or across the country on the opposite coast! Food was just ok, while the buffets offered a good variety and had plenty, we were disappointed in the flavor, or lack thereof! Went to the El Dorado one night and del Fuego one night, both meals were good with the El Dorado having the best food. Unless you want to adventure out on your own to see things, I wouldn't, but we know people who have rented a vehicle and driven all over the country, the tours and about all you might want to see are cost prohibitive! Taxis are expensive, flat fee, no meter based on mileage! Paid twice as much for taxi as we did in Cabo last year! Fortunately we have no children and like to spend time just sitting or relaxing by the pool, otherwise we would have gone stir crazy! Oh and by the way, you are charged at the airport to leave the country! $29 per person! Exit tax they call it! We would not go back to Costa Rica, spent plenty for this eight night trip and really were more than ready to some home! First time ever for us!
