Hidden paradisePosted Mar 11, 2015
Pros: Peace and quiet! The owners and staff, proximity to very beautiful quiet beach
This place is truly a hidden paradise! Tamarindo is kind of busy and touristy, and we wanted someplace a little quieter. well, this is it! First the Owners, Manager and staff cannot be more friendly and attentive, it was like staying with friends. You drive up a few dirt roads, always makes me nervous to see whats to come, then you walk into this place, and it is beautiful. The pool is in the center, with beautiful gardens, the rooms are very nice! Makes me think of Mexical Blues with the decor, very clean, AC, Wi Fi, bed is so comfortable! But you really do not want to stay in the room. Right in front of your door is a wrap around porch for all the rooms with rocking chairs, then the pool is right in front of you. Attached on the other side is the bar and dining room, with one area with a fire pit. Theres a resident parrot who is very fun to watch, especially when she gets her standard breakfast of scrambled eggs every morning. Drinks are amazing but the food is absolutely delicious! the Chefs are amazing!! Just down the street, easy 10 minute walk is the beach, Playa Grande-Beautiful, quiet, peaceful. The Hotel is also on an estuary so we took a small boat (3$ a person) up to Tamarindo for lunch, saw crocodiles on the estuary. It was fun to sit around the bar with the owners and staff, and hang out and talk. I wish my stay here was longer!

A friendly, relaxing visitPosted Mar 10, 2015
Pros: The staff, the location, and the food at the restaurant were all amazing.
Cons: More attention to details, like the issue we had with the shower head.
Location: In nearby Tamarindo, there are many restaurants and tourist agencies that can arrange for tours to other locations, surfing, sailing, etc.
Hotel Bula Bula is a tranquil, out of the way hotel located within a short walk from one of the nicest beaches in Costa Rica. During our stay, because we rose early to see the sunset, we had the added benefit of seeing a Leatherback turtle heading back to the water after laying her eggs, an Olive Ridley turtle laying eggs, and a nest of Olive Ridley baby turtles that had recently hatched. For me, this was an experience of a lifetime - and only a few minutes walk from Hotel Bula Bula. The hotel itself is small (10 rooms), and the rooms are small, but adequate. We did have a problem with water pressure in the shower, so shower head was replaced before our stay was over. Breakfast was included with our hotel plan, and it was truly delicious. Options were eggs made several different ways, french toast or pancakes. All came with coffee, juice and lots of fresh fruit. The staff were always attentive and friendly. Every room has two comfortable wicker chairs in front, so there is a "family front porch" sort of feel when you sit outside. We frequently got into conversations with other guests at the hotel who were also sitting outside, which made the visit even nicer. The bottom line about this hotel is that if you're looking for a quiet, tranquil place to stay, and are not worried about night life, it's great. If you want a luxurious place with lots of night time activities, it's probably not for you. But even if you don't stay there, you really should eat at the restaurant

Nice and quiet place to relax.Posted Feb 19, 2015
Pros: Staff members make you feel very welcomed.
Cons: Hedges in front of rooms were a bit high. It obscured the view from inside the room. Water pressure could of been better in the shower.
Location: Location was good. A bit out of the way, but that made it nice and quiet. Plenty of nearby beaches to visit. (by car) Other attractions are further
Had a great time. Staff members were pleasant friendly.

Very relaxing getawayPosted Feb 6, 2015
Location: Went on an interesting boat trip up the estuary from the hotel. Saw monkeys and crocodiles.
We spent 3 nights here while on an extended trip to Costa Rica. Absolutely loved it! Great breakfast included, dinners excellent - we shared because the portions were so big! Staff friendly and helpful.

Nice hotel, unfortunately there was a powerout for a couple of hours when we visited. Great restaurant! Close to good surfing

Nice staff, and clean rooms. Playa grande is a very small neighborhood and better for those who want to see less than 10 (different) people all week. For more, go closer to Tamarindo.

Relaxing and fantastic hotel at Playa GrandePosted Jan 13, 2015
We spent three nights there and were completely satisfied with the services and facilities of the hotel. The atmosphere is really relaxing during the day and in the evening the bar looks really like a good place where you can have a nice drink with friends. The room was clean and spotless. You can reach Playa Grande in 10 minutes (walk) or 2 minutes by car or Playa Tamarindo by boat.

Slice of heavenPosted Nov 24, 2014
This little hotel is the perfect place to unwind. Its quiet, clean and beautiful. The staff are great. The food is great. The location is great. Its important to know that during the day you can take a very inexpensive water taxi to Tamarindo if you feel like enjoying typical tourist activities like souvenir shopping or massages. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and will return. Plus the beach(5 minute walk) is simply mindblowing.

A quiet secluded hotelPosted Jul 4, 2014
Pros: quiet, but still had everything we needed. Variety of food was wonderful. And wonderful flavors. Mothers meat loaf must be a 5 star item.
Cons: The road to Bula Bula.
Location: Playa Grande, Tamirando , we were in the middle. fishing, beaching, shopping, Great.
The food was excellent and they had a large variety, probably thanks to Wally, one of the owners. The staff was very helpful all the way from Walter the Gen Mgr. to the room attendants. Todd and Wally the owners were on hand every day we were there and very helpful. Maria, Ernesto, Victor were all polite and went out of the way to help us with our stay. Five stars for this group.
