Excellent experience in a 1 bdr suite (cabin unit)

Pros: Great beach and beach club. Two superb pools. All the towels you'll need. Quietly stunning grounds (even in the height of dry season).
Cons: The patios should have a table.
Location: We'll go back, I believe. It's a bit remote (even though we had a car) but there's a ton do along this coastline. Plus - I didn't golf - this time.
We recently stayed 5 nights in a one bedroom suite w/ kitchen. Great place. 1)Room service – it is available but expensive. 2)Restaurant – very nice but it’ll add up if you are taking all meals there or at the other options on the resort grounds. 3)Are there monkeys? Of course. Plentiful. We had two great monkey parades (howlers) just off our patio in the 15’ – 35’ trees abutting the dry forest. The troops varied with about 20 to 30 members. 4)Should you have a car? In our book this is a must. The resort is self contained but to get to Avenallas Beach and the really awesome beach club grounds (and then so much else in Guanacaste) it’s ~6 km and waiting for the shuttle would be annoying to get there and back. Plus, getting supplies for use of the kitchen means driving off the resort grounds. There are no shops. Car gets you to multiple other beaches in the area as well. Playa Negra is quite worth a day vist and is about 10 km. 5)Avenallas is wonderful. A great beach with excellent breaks for the surfers. I body boarded contentedly. 6)Take advantage of the laundry. Returned same day if they have it by 9:00 am and the prices are very reasonable. 7)There are two gates available to get off the resort grounds. If going to Playa Negra be sure to take the gate that’s basically right at La Posada. Don’t go back to the main entrance. 8)There is an ATM at the main reception area. Didn’t use it so don’t know the fees. 9)It’s a resort – the water in the suites is fine to drink. 10) Go.

Misleading photos
Posted Jan 8, 2013 on Hotels.com
The Overview of your description states that the hotel "sits on the beach." Not true. The photos accompanying your review totally missrepresent the location of the hotel. Several of them were taken at the Clubhouse, which IS on the beach, approximately one mile from the hotel. They give the impression that the hotel is by the ocean, whereas it is not even close. You must take a shuttle to get to the sea. The hotel is very isolated, and their high food prices reflect the lack of competition. In addition, the staff was fifty-fifty with respect to courtesy and helpfulness. The management needs to impress on them that paying customers deserve good service, not bad attitude. I should add that your list of amenities incorrectly says that airport pickup is 10,000 colones (approximately $20), but the hotel actually charges $100 for that service.

Disappointing !

Pros: The Beach Club
Cons: Service and amenities
Location: Nicely located within the Pinilla complex
Hacienda Pinilla is one of Costa Rica's upscale gated communities and so I hoped to find the respective accommodation, but La Posada is NOT the hotel I would recommend. In the morning, I had a nearly cold shower. Seems their warm water tanks have not sufficient capacity for peak hours. Also, safety box was too small and rusty. Bed linens not 100 % clean. Curtains not well fixed and dirty. Internet Wi-Fi not working properly. And the parking area has zero shadow, so when you leave your car there during the day, you get cooked when you get back. Some of the staff were friendly, but not all. In a country like Costa Rica depending much on tourism, you would expect a lot more effort to let the client feel good.

Great for families

Pros: The Beach Club was amazing!
Cons: Had a few critters in our room but that is to be expected in Costa Rica.
We were on vacation with our 2 children 10 years and 19 months. The hotel was nice. The pool was wonderful. The staff was very pleasing. We chose the breakfast included option which was delicious. We will stay here again.

Pros: Location
Location: Perfect beach if you like surf (Avellanas & Langosta) and calm in Mansita.
The best place in Guanacaste, with the most beautiful beaches. Avellanas, Mansita & Langosta. Good restaurant.

Great time at La Posada

We didn't know what to expect when we booked this room online, since the price was so good. We were pleasantly surprised. It is true there is about a 5 minute bad section of road getting into the resort, but after that all is good. The hotel is show a few signs of age, but the rooms are clean, made up daily. The staff was very friendly and helpful. As an example, I went to the front desk to tell them my internet connection wasn't working. I walked directly to my room and when I got there, there was a maintenance man standing at my front door to fix the problem. Turns out it was a minor configuration problem. Food at the hotel was great with a friendly wait staff. We highly recommend this hotel for everyone. Great place for the price.

Very nice hotel, but be careful parking
Posted Jan 7, 2013
The hotel is very nice, but be careful where you park. The area is very windy, and I parked in front of the reception. When I picked up the car the next day some other car had hit my car door very hard. I reported it to the hotel, and they just told me they didn't have any insurance. They also said that their security staff didn't report anything, and that was not a surprise to me, as I only saw some one from security around the parking place only once during the four days we were at the hotel. So you are on your own.

It was a wonderful experience for the most part. Safety was key. We were there with a large group, having to use their drivers to get off the property was a monetary inconvenience but here is why it is important. Not once but three times did members of my party lose a camera, iphone etc., all were returned by the next day. The location, which nothing can be done about is secluded from Tamarindo. Depends on your preference. The hotel might want to consider renting or leasing out golf carts to get around the property. The beds are stiff, this may be convenient for some but I enjoy softer beds. Beach Club prices are moderate but both drinks and food were delicious!

Only drawback is that it is hard to get to Tamarindo. You need to get shuttles between compound amenities. The beach club is amazing. Would stay again but would rent a car.
