Great place to forget about the world and rechargePosted May 14, 2014 on Hotels.com
I go to this place about twice a year. It is inside a 4,000 plus acre complex including a JW Marriott, Beach Club and luxury homes, plus a wonderful Golf course. I actually own a lot in the complex, but have not built, yet. I have two kids, 2 and 4, and they love the place. The beach is fantastic, bit it is about 2 km away. Now, if you want to party, the nearest town is about 20 minutes a way. Cabs are from 20 to 50 dollars each way, depending on how good you negotiate. shuttle from the complex starts at 35 for 4 people, 45 for 6 people. If planning on going to the nearby town of Tamarindo more than once a day, it may be better to rent a car.

Great place for a getawayPosted Apr 11, 2014 on Hotels.com
Very nice place to take family to - great villas, nice beaches and activities. Pool house and stables are specifically worth mentioning. Car is manadatory at the facility - you need it to get anywhere.

Close to Avellanas surf beachPosted Sep 24, 2013
Pros: Close to surf break
Cons: When you come in a group have rooms closer together and have a ice machine for guests
Location: 15 minutes from Tamarindo
Cost effective hotel to stay at near Playa Avellanas Surf Beach, Near the south gate of the resort compound so gives you in and out access to the Avellanas area. Food is very expensive at the hotel, but dining out overall is expensive in this part of Costa Rica. The hotel grounds are very well landscaped and lighted and since it is a gated resort it feels very safe. Just minutes down the road there is a place called Cabinas Las Olas which has some of the best food and drinks in the area, along with a great boardwalk access to the Avellanas Beach. Pura Vida

Great Family time at Hacienda PinillaPosted Aug 12, 2013
My family and I stayed in Hacienda Pinilla, at La Posada Hotel, for five nights in Aug 2013. We had a wonderful time. Hacienda Pinilla is gorgeous, with thousands of acres of open fields and trees. There are three main built areas: the JW Mariott, Hotel La Posada, and the Beach Club. The Beach Club is the place to be during the day, with a beautiful pool and right across from Avellana Beach, one of the best of the area. La Posada is about a 5 minute drive. The hotel has shuttles, but it's easier if you have a car. La Posada Hotel itself is pretty quiet, at least it was when we stayed. It has its own pool and restaurant. It's great for a quiet family vacation. but it's close enough to the Beach Club if you want more activities. Another option is to drive to Tamarindo, outside of the Hacienda. it's about a 20 minute drive. Well worth it. It's the main hangout place in the area. It has a ton of cool restaurants and a beautiful beach. Lots of shopping too. In summary, Hacienda Pinilla is a great place for a family vacation.
