If I could give this resort zero stars I would, from the moment we arrived this hospitality was horrible. Two thumbs down! We got to our room to be greeted by fresh blood on out comforter, semen on the towels in our supposed freshly cleaned bathroom, as well as makeup and semen smeared on the balcony doors. When attempting to call down, we discovered our phone didn’t work. They refused to change our room, and said they would have someone clean it when they could. After going and and forth and explaining how unsanitary this was, they sent someone to clean. Later that night our air conditioner went out in the room, we went down and when they sent someone up he showed us how extremely filthy the filter was. Day two, trying to forget the horrible day one our toilet broke, chain snapped right off. We had to wait for it to get fixed. Aside from no entertainment, and 1-3 hour waits for the speciality dinning, there was nothing at all to brag about at this resort. Staff is extremely rude and non accommodating, the food is mid, and no room service at all. They have one pool table, and you have to wait long periods of time to use it. The drinks are watered down, the elevators are slow and have no ac and if you’re hungry after 10pm good luck. There’s nothing to eat! So very disappointed.

The property is a little dated, and the pool always appeared to be dirty i.e drinks and drink garnish around the edge of the pool. bugs and leaves in the pool. filthy poolside chairs. The food is about a 6/10 across the board. However, the staff is great and the ambience is wonderful.

Costa Rica as a WHOLE is very plush and everywhere on the RIU property vs. outside heading toward excursions/airport is photo worthy.Things to be aware-There's only 1 bathroom area outside of the lobby and 1 swim up bar area. They have 3 bars & 2 bathroom on areas inside the main lobby area. Which drinks are now served until 10:00am so if you are at the pool earlier( I'm there by 6:00am lol) than you'll have to grab any type of beverage wether alcoholic or not at the 24hr sports bar before heading to the pool area. Definitely feel like they should serve breakfast in the Ocala restaurant besides the pool area with views of the beach or at least have a drink fountain machine available since there are no servers until 10:00/10:30. Also there were only 2-3 servers waiting poolside for the entire outside lounge areas which made the wait even longer.Besides those small things the servers/cleaners were AMAZING & nice and the property area was clean. Even the local sellers on the beach we're extremely nice

We can not express how amazing the staff and everyone there treated us. From the customer service (who saved our sanity when trying to navigate technology issues), to the waiter/waitress, bartenders, etc. they were all so kind, cheerful, and above all...welcoming! The beach was beautiful and not crowded at all. We also enjoyed the nightly entertainment shows.

The room is not clean. The bathroom is not functioning properly, the air conditioner is not working properly. The key to each room must not have the room number. Overall, I made a mistake going to this property that I expect lots more for a four stars resort.

The property was immaculate, and the entertainment was very lively. Large resort but never felt too crowded. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Beach access was easy. The black sand was a pleasant surprise. Would suggest resort upgrade outdated room key system as well as the strange shower/ tub set up. The tub is too narrow and the step up to access the tub is much too high. Lastly, a more efficient system for reserving restaurants instead of first come first serve - kinda ruins the vacation vibes to have to get ready super early hoping to get a reservation. Overall, I would definitely recommend Riu Guanacaste to others.

I would love to give this place a 5 Stars food was amazing and so was the shows they put on but sadly there was an incident where a worker from the front desk was scamming peoples credit cards ($300) with a card reader, as much as I respect how honest the manager was about the incident it was still kinda a buzz kill, money also went missing from our room, I highly suggest being careful and double checking for any charges on your card and making sure to use the safe…. other then that we did have a great time !

I normally do not write these reviews but this one is needed. I always book RIU hotels but this one was unacceptable. I feel that the staff at RIU Guanacaste was very rude and not understanding . There were numerous occasions we try to speak to the staff and they you would clearly see it was going I. One ear and out the next. At meal time none of the restaurant staff approached our table to serve or great us . We had to get our own drinks and utensils . They only came around when it was time to pick up our plates to get us out and get this napkins were nowhere in sight . We actually found hair in the pizza. Then my wife went to the restroom and walked out of the stall to a male cleaner standing there staring at the stall inside the women’s restroom that’s unacceptable. Least to mention the pool was scorching hot and unsanitary all kinds of dead bugs floating around. The room we stayed in was do able but we had to call once for a clean change of sheets right after they changed the sheets because we noticed stains on them. Please do not take this review lightly I had an amazing time in RIU bambu in Mexico they were such amazing staff as well as RIU Negril in Jamaica even RIU palace bavaro was better then this . There were raccoons and iguanas all over the resort. This is be my last time traveling to Costa Rica or possibly booking with RIU.

Me and my two best friends were looking for a resort that was family-friendly, on the beach, and offered excursions. RIU checked all of those boxes. We had such an amazing time. The staff was amazing, and the entertainment was incredible every night. We loved the Neon Night, they painted everyone's faces and turned the dance floor into a neon club night where kids and parents had the best time. My only bit of feedback is that upon arrival it would have been nice to receive a schedule with the daily activities. There was a foam party at the pool and different themes but we had no idea until about day 3 of being there. We also didn't know there was a buffet lunch and only thought the food was BBQ by the pool. That communication breakdown had us annoyed. They should also consider airport shuttle pick-up/drop-off packages... I can NOT complain about anything else and would highly recommend especially to bring your kids.

Hotel has a steel key operated rooms very hard to find it in the pocket whenever we are ready to go in the room bathroom was dirty room was dirty very old furniture TV screen is very bad you cannot see it clear they said ocean view but you cannot see ocean from the balcony because there is so many palm trees, front of balconies I stayed on fourth floor but didn’t worked out whenever we ask for Room they delayed we have to call 23 times to get some very bad management Cook make faces when we try to tell to make some thing for us they don’t give answer in a proper way. I had a very very bad experience in you. I will never stay in any hotels , they did not told us about any activity when we checked in they did not give us map at all when I checked in ask for the water and Front Desk says they don’t have water pool is very dirty. Also, there is so many bugs and leaves inside very cheap alcohol , they use did not like it at all again the room is has very old furniture needs to be replaced. The towel has a hole in all that colors.

Overall, we had a very bad experience, with extremely rude staff and no attention to guest needs. The elevator was broken for 5 days out of 7, forcing us to walk up to the 5th floor. This situation was especially difficult for guests in wheelchairs; we observed some who waited for 30 minutes for an elevator that never came. Additionally, the layout requires guests to navigate a long hallway just to reach the elevator, adding to the inconvenience. Any attempts to address these issues with the front desk were met with rudeness and indifference, with staff members stating they didn’t care. The room and the hotel itself felt very outdated. The beach was dirty, and all the sun loungers were super old, dirty, and filthy, to the point where you just wouldn’t want to lay on them. Some sun loungers were in such terrible condition. During dinner, a raccoon was jumping all over the tables, which was quite awful. Considering the price we paid, the level of service and the state of the facilities were unacceptable and frankly ridiculous. We would never recommend this place. It’s probably one of the worst experiences we’ve had. This is an absolutely honest review; I’m unsure how there could be any positive reviews out there.

Property was in pretty good condition. People were nice. Cool to see monkeys right there at the property. Bad part was the load construction into the later evening and the load music from the outdoor stage area later int to evening.
