Hotel at sugar beach is amazing.Posted Apr 18, 2015
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We visited during the slow season and practically had the place to ourselves. Food is very good with a nice variety. I can't wait for a return visit.

Perfect!Posted Apr 18, 2015
We spent a week at Hotel Sugar Beach. The landscaping of the hotel is gorgeous. There are iguanas everywhere and a gang of howler monkeys that show up in the trees right in the middle of the hotel. The pool was swell. We were there everyday. The beach is very attractive and was not at all crowded. The restaurant was particularly groovy. We ate there everyday. Fantastic cocktails! The wait staff was fine with our daughter and some other kids running around the restaurant, when it wasn't very crowded. The food, both Costa Rican and international, was exceptional and reasonable priced. You will not want to miss the complimentary breakfast. The restaurant also has a gorgeous view of the beach. A good time to show up at the restaurant is just before sunset. The town of Portero and other businesses are not very walkable from Hotel Sugar Beach. We rented a car for three days. The hotel arranged this and the car was brought to the hotel. Again, the price was very reasonable and the area has excellent roads. All the staff at Hotel Sugar Beach were fabulously helpful.

Great, isolated place to relaxPosted Mar 31, 2015
Cons: Bed wasn't the most comfortable.
Location: Suntan and swim.
I did some quick research for places along the beach in Guanacaste, and this place came up, and decided to try it for the first few days of our trip. It ended up being one of our favorite places, and after checking out most other locations I had looked at (Playa Conchal, Brasilito, Tamarindo, Flamingo), this place was definitely the right choice. The individual rooms are fairly isolated, and ours had an ocean view (though not right on the beach, but steps away. Room was decent, but you're not there for the room. The beach was great, and we mostly had it to ourselves. easy to relax on and enjoy the waters (sure there are some rocks on the edges, but plenty of place to swim comfortably). The staff was great, and we thought the restaurant was pretty good. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation spot, this is your place (if you're looking for nightlife and a party, this is not).

Four day getawayPosted Mar 23, 2015
First time to Costa Rica. 4 days not near enough! Hotel was on beautiful peaceful , almost private beach. Beautiful sunsets. Food was awesome, staff very helpful and friendly. The facilities were perfect. Not a big "resort" so very personal and private. Enjoyed watching monkeys in the trees while at restaurant. A perfect getaway and can't wait to return!

Beautiful room and on the beach.Posted Feb 28, 2015
Pros: Virtually everything, except they are not close to any night life.
Cons: More wide spread wifi, some artwork in the rooms, and
Location: The country has so much to offer, from the hotel, use Carlos for tours, he is great. Not much in the way of a city nearby, Flamingo Beach is all.
The staff was wonderful, especially Melissa on the front desk, Stephanie for everything, and Victor an absolutely top notch waiter in the restaurant.

Return to paradisePosted Feb 25, 2015
Pros: Clean rooms . Clean beach . Private and serene. Great place for star gazers !
Cons: WiFi in the rooms would be nice . Expand cable TV selection ? But who watches tv there anyways . Could expand the dinner menu a bit.
Location: Location is quite isolated , but we like that. Surfing and shopping in Tamarindo , but you need a vehicle .
We have stayed at Sugar Beach many times over the last ten years or so. We were very pleased to see the road paved all the way from Flamingo Brasalitto to the Sugar Beach Hotel and beyond . The staff are very friendly and always helpful . Our waiter Victor ,who has been working there for 19 years was delightful and helpful as always. The food and service was excellent . Private beach , beautiful sunsets ! We'll be back again sometime in the future for sure .

Great place to stayPosted Feb 9, 2015
Pros: The beach and nature around the hotel.
Cons: Hotel facilities and room shower.
Location: Lot of things to do. Beautiful beaches.
The hotel is located in a private beach, very beautiful. The room comfort was not excellent because the shower was really small. The hotel condition is kind of old, but they are rebuilding some parts. These were the only two flaws that I experienced in this hotel. Overall, I recommend it.

Excellent hotel in a (mostly) secluded areaPosted Feb 5, 2015
Pros: The location and the quality of food and the great service people
Cons: At times we had trouble finding a lounge chair. Not enough for everyone to go around and this was a drag. My wife and I couldn't share beach time.
Location: Lot's of great restaurants around the area, but the hotel restaurant was perfect. We rented a car to explore so we ate out often. Beaches galore.
Great location, excellent food and service people. Main desk very attentitive to any needs we had. Animals, reptiles, and birds abound on the grounds. Fairly clean beach in a cove made you feel you were away from general public. Security was present at all times. Our room with the ocean view was worth the extra cost. Workers were always present cleaning the grounds and beach.
