Beautiful facility in a beautiful location

Pros: Beautiful pool. Good breezes to keep the heat down. Amazing beds. Staff tries very very hard to please in every way.
Cons: Despite good english by most staff, we had a number of order foulups and inconsistency. Just how Costa Rica seems to work.
Location: Beach is ok, pretty rocky, a few places you can go in a bit, I think undercurrents may be a risk. Great breezes, varying to windy.
We arrived at the security gate when the gps showed we were still some distance from the resort. As we drove approaching the resort, it's clear a lot of money is going into infrastructure in the area, and there are a number of other gated communities. We were warmly greeted at the door, invited into a 4 desk office to sit down and check in. Definitely a premium feel. We were taken with our luggage to our rooms (1 King room, 1 dual double room), and found them to be top notch materials, beds and linens. Shortly after we arrived we went down for some food and found 1 of 2 critiques. Not really much of a "light meal" choice. Food is a bit pricey (it is a very upscale place), but the meals are all huge. We tended to order room service and share meals, as in Costa Rica, anything unusual with menu requests always ends in heartache. The kids meals are enough to feed an adult, but when we ordered one kids meal for our 5 year old, and another for our 16 year old, it seemed to cause a lot of back and forth and confusion until they finally got it right. They need to add free potable water. Most places had large water dispensers but they only had 2 small complimentary bottles in the room. Were advised they don't recommend tapwater, yet when we ordered a meal without drinks, they served it. So it must be essentially safe. Water is $7-9 for a 1.75 liter. Family of 5, at least 2/day, $70 for water. The hotel was a treat for us, so if like us, bring your own.

THE BEST

WE WERE AMAZED. IT WAS PERFECT FROM START TO FINISH. The hotel is a mere 20 minus away from the nearest village. It is wonderfully secluded, but not inconvenient. The beach was amazing,. The service was five star. The staff was friendly and professional. I would come back in a heartbeat. Pura Vida.

Great resort from beginning to end!

Pros: I loved that everything was clean. Not just in our rooms but all common areas and pool area. I loved the decor. Staff was very accommodating.
Location: You can rent a car and visit the country. My husband rented an atv and went zip lining. We also went fishing and stopped by Playa Tamarindo. Fun!
The moment we arrived at the hotel we were very pleased with our first impression. The room was nicely decorated and large. The food was fantastic in all the restaurants. The menu by the pool was impressive not fried foods but with great fresh fish. Sea bass and ceviche was delicious! Also, the cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks were always with fresh fruit juice. We had friends staying at The Westin during our stay, but we were very happy to be at J.W. Marriott instead. Westin was too spread out and had to take shuttles to get to restaurants, pool areas, and beach club within the resort. We would return to J.W. Marriott without a doubt. Large enough for privacy but not enough to feel lost or too much walking. I enjoyed the spa while my husband ran on the beach. Guests won't be dissapointed!

Excellent Service

Service was excellent and staff was very friendly. Rooms are large and nice. Pool is great, beach is on the rocky side. Meals, drinks and extras were on the expensive side given the many all inclusive hotel options in Costa Rica.

Good

Everything was good. Need to do more to improve the beach area. Some escavating and new sand. Removal of the rocks and debree from the beach. Maybe create a barge to calm the waves. Don't visit for the beach.

Very nice.

Everyone at the JW Marriott was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were very good. The resort sits right on the beach, and the pool is nice. We ended up moving to the Westing after a few days, however. It's nearby, nicer, there's more to do, and the meals are all included. I felt like the Marriott was more of a luxury adult hotel, and the Westin is more of a fun family hotel.

Perfect place to unwind for a Family

Pros: The JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort very high standards in staff, hotel & Restaurant's.
Location: location very good a little remote one can ride bikes, golf. Can go into town 30 mins from hotel. Tours are top notch as well as Deep Sea Fishing.
Hotel very nice easy check in/out. Staff is very accommodating We booked a couple of tours including go to Nicaragua as well as deep sea fishing for the day very nice. Trip to Nicaragua very long all day but worth it. Many actives to chose from to fit everyone's interest. With 2 teenage children 18 & 15 very nice no one was board. I would rate the experience a 4.7 out of 5. Paul
