“Excellent Hotel”

The hotel has excellent services and food, more like 5 stars hotel. All-inclusive package definitely worth it. Very impressed and very friendly people. Will recommend this hotel to other people. Don't forget to make a reservation for the Oriental/Italian restaurant in the beginning of your stay otherwise you will never get in, always full book.

“location and the view”

The hotel was perfectly located on the hill with beautiful view on the bay and the ocean. The exotic surrounding greatly suited relaxing atmosphere. The staff was extremaly nice and friendly. Food was great, especially in the italian restaurant. I highly recommend this resort to stay.

“occidental grand papagayo is pretty grand!”

We stayed at Papagayo Grand for 3 nights June 2007. Registration greeted us with champagne. Staff were friendly efficient and eager to please, all spoke English. A pleasantly designed hotel with extremely smart public areas. The buffet restaurant was particularily attractive, with excellent choice and quality of food. The pool is nice, albeit a wee bit on the small side when it is busy. Good leisure activities in the Fun Club , eg snorkelling, kayaking,dancing, Spanish lessons. We did not have enough time to try these but did go on a couple of guided walks in the morning and at sunset. Excursions were available from 3 travel desks, and a shop sold postcards and souvenirs. It is situated in a lovely bay with a good beach. The hotel provided free transport for me to attend Mass at Hermosa on Sunday. A taxi price list to other hotels and resorts is in the foyer.. There are no local buses. The nearest local place to visit is probably Coco, but you can go further south to resorts like Tamarindo, at a price of course. The hotel is very popular with Americans. there is a small disco club in the evenings, and sometimes live music on the terrace. Altogether, an extremely enjoyable stay at a great hotel. We would certainly like to return one day.

“We had a great time!”

The Occidential Grand Papagayo All Inclusive hotel was a real treat. We visited with our adult sons and their girlfriends and everyone thought this was one of our best vacations ever. The hotel staff is extremely focused on customer service. They remember and greet you by name. Employees throughout the resort are smiling and friendly. The setting is beautiful and restful. The food was excellent. Great variety and plenty of it. Activites galore are available at the resort and nearby. We snorkled off the beach, SCUBA dived, went canyoning(rappelling down waterfalls deep in the rain forest), did the forest canopy zip line, and rode horses. Costa Rica is a beautiful country and we found this hotel to be an excellent value. Great trip!

“An amazingly beautiful resort with the best of employees!”

When we first arrived we were greeted in the lobby by a waiter who brought us champagne. That eager to please attitude was shared by every single employee at the resort. Most of them learn your name the very first day and you are greeted with a "Good morning Miss so and so" or "Good evening Mr. so and so" at every part of the resort you enter. We were married on the beach the next day, and being the first same sex couple to have a ceremony at their resort, the GM upgraded us to the honeymoon suite at no extra charge. Our gorgeous room was cleaned twice a day and mini bar restocked daily. They treated us like royalty throughout our five day stay. The restaurants have delicious food and we had no problem getting reservations. Even the buffet retaurants went beyond our expectations with a huge variety of selections. I have already recommended this resort to my friends and family and we will definately be returning.

“Grand Papagayo, We'd go back tomorrow !”

My wife and I had a delightful, romantic stay at this lovely resort. We rated the quality of service as 4 because we had to repeatedly call room service and guest services to get them to respond. It appeared that they did not have enough back-up to handle the demands. We consider this a minor inconvenience, but one that a resort should not impose on a guest. The rest of our experience was wonderful.

“Loved, loved, loved it!”

My boyfriend and I visited this resort in May of 08. The only thing I was disappointed with was that we were not aware that the resort was 5 hours from San Jose airport. The resort provided a Taxi that was waiting for us upon arrival. We flew back out of Liberia airport which was 20min from resort. The service was excellent, The food was very good. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the oriental restaurant. The grill restaurant we visited on the last night and paid a little extra for lobster. The lunch buffet was not that great but it wasn't that important to us. The drinks were plentiful. We went on several tours with an outside company called Avispa. Wonderful!! Lots of wildlife everywhere. The night club was fun and the entertainment staff were great. Our room was just fine, it was cleaned every day, our refrigerator was stocked and the AC was cold. We weren't in our room that much! I will say that the average wage there is $1.50 per hour. We tipped for great service! We are currently planning our return trip for our wedding!

“5 start treatment”

Hotel stay has been tremendously rewarding. My wife felt as though i had orginized all activities and went the extra step to setup all trip and amenties but the truth is the hotel staff was a big part in making us feel extra special by upgrading us to the honey moon suite, providing us with champagne,fruits,a list of activities,and setup a romantic dinner at one of the hotel's resturuants called the oriental. They provided us with reservations in the tatami room which had such a serene and relaxing atmosphere. All of the staff was polite,friendly and curtious to all guests. Would recommend to all honey mooners,and all round travelers to a beautiful prestine country of costa rica. Would love to experience other Occidental Resorts but this one is in our hearts !!!!

“Great place but be careful with the airport.”

Food is good and plentiful. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and speak excellent English. Great beach, and they even have a tennis court. Problems: sometimes they clean your room late, they only refill the minibar every other day, and it is quite couples oriented (not too many singles around).

“Good Memories”

It is worth the extra money to get an ocean view. Our room was 2001, a corner room with a wonderful view. The vegetation and wildlife was abundant each morning and evening when we had our coctails on the porch. I had never seen howler monkeys in trees just 75 feet from my porch. All the guests were friendly, yet we had plenty of privacy. Great bird watching, so take your binoculuars even if you don't know the names of the birds. We loved ever minute of our vacation.
