“Best view, great location, excellent food”

I stayed at the Ocotal Beach resort for a week. I highly recommend it. The view and location couldn't be better, especially for the price. Very scenic, with a lot of wildlife all over the property. Iguanas, monkeys, anteaters... At the far end of the beach below within easy walking distance is a small cavern, a lot of great photo ops. A lot of people commented that the building needs work which is true but I only noticed exterior details that in no way affected my stay. Loved the food, although I didn't eat many dinners there. The appetizers were so good I ended up eating multiple appetizers as my dinner. The staff was always friendly and very helpful and informative about area attractions.

“Our First Trip to Costa Rica”

This was our first trip to this wonderful country. The hotel was absolutely everything we could have expected. The view from our room was spectacular as we gazed at the multi-colored water in the Pacific Ocean. Amenities at the hotel were great as well...three pools, an excellent restaurant with a super breakfast buffet, and staff who were so pleasant and friendly. Thanks for the up close and personal experience with monkeys, iguanas, raccoons, an anteater, and the most beautiful birds. We will be back!

“Pura Vida at its best!”

I have been going to Costa Rica for many years, but this was the first time in Ocotal. I will be returning! What a fantastic hotel and area. Breathtaking view from my room. Staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I was traveling alone and felt very safe. Diving staff was knowledgeable and professional. Hotel grounds go from beach to top of hill, so you will get some exercise. But monkeys, iguanas, birds, and crabs everywhere you turn. I left with many new friends. Thank you Ocotal Beach Resort for an unforgettable stay!

“Great Views, Great Fishing, Great Place”

Amazing views! Monkeys, iguanas, beautiful birds and lovely pools. The staff always worked hard to please. Very friendly and safe resort. Restaurant was very good. We took some of our catch from out fishing in a couple evenings and they did a great job preparing. We had 2 days of excellent fishing on the AHI out of the resort. The Captain Paulo and Mate Jonathan was great! Highly recommend! (marlin, sail fish, rooster fish, barracuda, jack crevalle to name a few) Cool, very clean rooms somewhat dated. Steep hills but was always willing to shuttle down to beach at no charge. Gated with guard shack. Went into town several times for shopping and dinner. Always had driver there for small fee. Great price for stay! Be prepared for fly bites and mosquitoes. Would go back for fishing and relaxation.

“Ocatel Resort in Costa Rica was fabulous”

This resort was wonderful, we booked it through expedia and did not know what to expect, what a great suprise. The pools were great, right on the beach. A very good stay for families. We met so many families staying at the resort which was great for my 6 year old daughter, she made many friends at the pool. We cannot wait to come back next year and will let everyone know about Ocatel!

“We'll be back soon”

My wife and I spent an early Valentine’s Day (2-5-2011 through 2-8-2011) at the Ocotal Resort. We had stayed there about 5 years ago with our teenage boys and loved it. In fact, a friend I advised in her party’s travels to Costa Rica, said it was the best place they visited while there. So I was a little dismayed to read some very negative remarks (on another web site) from people who had been there much more recently than I. They indicated that the place looked run down and that the management may just be trying to get through the peak season. But the price was right, so we went anyway. I cannot adequately express how glad I am that we did. It is as beautiful as we remembered. I was more aware of the fact that the place is a little dated, but everywhere there were workers painting roofs, planting flowers and generally sprucing the place up. I did see an ant in our room, but otherwise it was very clean. The staff was genuinely warm and helpful and the security was visible without being intrusive. The breakfast was not quite as good as it was 5 years ago (back then they had a guy making omelets to order). Overall, we loved it. Father Roster’s is still there (we watched the Super Bowl there at tables outside near the beach). The food was good and the place was fun.

“Ocotal Beach Resort”

Awesome hotel at a great location! We stayed in the 400 block at the top and the view over the bay was magnificent. The 400 block also has a pool and a hot tub next to it which was very nice. Went scuba diving with the divecenter at the resort and they were professional. Ocotal is a great spot if you're into diving. There are lots of big creatures to meet like manta rays, eagle rays, whale sharks, bull sharks etc. Went to Bat Islands which was an awesome dive site but the boat ride out was really rough. Would do it again though if I get the chance.

“Everything I hoped it would be!”

The resort is in a beautiful location, up on a cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean. There is a black sand beach , three pools and two hot tubs. The hotel stay included a really nice breakfast and we even enjoyed the pesky birds and iguanas. The staff was very helpful and friendly and I would recommend this resort to anyone looking to get away from it all and simply relax. The small nearby town of Playa de Coco was a lot of fun, lots of good food and drink.
