“Great location”

This hotel is located in Shamian island, a historical site of GZ. This location is great, there is an excellent Italian restaurant just 5 minute walk, called La Dolce Vita. Hotel itself is old but good, very big room, I staied in the West Building, which is older than the Main Building. Good cost/benefit. Breakfast was very good too.

“Great value!”

This hotel, on low-traffic Shamian Island, was most pleasant. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, everything in the bathroom worked properly. Internet service was at no extra charge. The breakfast buffet was good, with varied offerrings including to-order omlets, and espresso coffee from a machine that grinds the beans when you start it. The staff was helpful, with good English. Very satisfactory!

“Lovely hotel and very reasonably priced”

Shamian Dao is a great location, which is much quieter than the rest of Guangzhou. Early in the morning, locals are out on the street playing badminton on the footpath and doing tai chi. We stayed in an Executive Room in the West Building (which contrary to many of the reviews we read is actually the older building, although recently renovated). The only downside is that the gym and other facilities are around the corner in the East building, but it's a short walk. We found the staff to be generally helpful and to have pretty competent English (not perfect, but pretty good). The food on Shamian Dao is much more expensive and touristy compared to other areas. Consider walking across the canal, past the Qingping market (also called the medicine market) and down the side streets to eat in little hole in the wall places (if you're adventurous).

“pleasant surprise”

stayed at guangdong victory hotel because of its reputation among adoption travelers - had heard it was less expensive and more spacious than the white swan - had heard mixed reviews about its breakfast buffet, however - the buffet turned out to be wonderful, a nice blend of western and asian offerings - the room we upgraded to (original standard sized room was simply too small) was perfect, modern, fashionable and clean - service was great - we were thrilled with our choice

“Stay in Western Building”

Eastern Building (EB) and Western Building (WB) are not closed as my idea. Therefore, you should to remember that you reserve for WB or EB. Otherwise you have walk across two building blogs from EB to WB. Breakfast place have beautiful light from transparent sunroof.

“It's an Oasis”

Arrived at 10:30 am. Room was not ready because check in time is at 2:00. Assistant manager apologized profusely, sat with us and talked, made us feel totally welcome. Stayed in newer west section. Everything was to the highest standard. Friendly, attentive staff. Wonderful breakfast. The area has a great Zen quality of peace and tranquillity. Wish I were back at this hotel right now...

“Stayed 3 weeks for adoption”

Entire floor was nonsmoking! That was great! I liked how there was very hot & cold drinkable water in the room and drinkable tap water in bathroom (no brushing teeth with bottled water). Was surrounded by lots of quiet streets with shops, etc. Western menu in lobby shop was good, affordable....non smoking too! Did not try pool, spa or 2nd floor restaurant. Business center and concierge were helpful. Nice service.....very nonintrusive maid service.

“extended 3 times, would always return to here”

Had planned on moving to different areas in Guangzhou. Was so satisfied here at the hotel stayed 12 days here. Very quiet area but close to almost everything. Great shopping and much cleaner air than a lot of guangzhou. Great food nearby and in the hotel. Every place we went people were great and a lot of them spoke English, much different than in Beijing, hired a translator from one of the restaurants at a very reasonable price. Only used her on occassion.
