“Public areas decent; rooms lacking”
The public areas of this hotel are not bad. They're somewhat small in comparison with other hotels (such as the Westin) on the hotel strip and major artery named Reforma. However, the rooms (we rented two) were a big disappointment. In fact, they were bad enough that we took pictures of one of them in an attempt to get a refund from Crowne Plaza. The bathroom was very, very small, had cracked walls, and an old tub with stains. It was a bathroom you would've expected at a small, older motel outside some US city. The room itself was lacking too in that all the furniture (literally all of it) was damaged. It looked like someone had taken their luggage and swung it around in the air and hit pretty much every piece of wood furniture in the room. The carpet was also badly stained, and we also took pictures of that. What we felt was the only more positive aspect to the room were the beds, which were very comfortable and seemingly clean. We contacted the hotel to at least advise them of this situation with there rooms and to offer to send them the photos. However, in two weeks we've received no response. The chain Crowne Plaza simply continues to say that they're forwarding each message to the hotel. It's a black hole. We've stayed at the Westin in Guatemala City prior to this. Take my word for it...go with the Westin. You'll be happier, despite paying a few more dollars.
