“Disappointment in Antigua”

For the price I paid I expected a superb hotel. My first disappointment was when I called to find out about parking. The staff informed that for persons making reservations online we could not use the parking space. The second disappointment was when they charged me 10% more because I was paying with credit card. There is no common area for guests and I did not see any dining room. The staff did not give information about the hotel or any other service. It is overpriced and I would not recommend it to anybody. The only plus for this hotel is the location. However, there are other hotels in the area that are much better and better price.

“Poor Choice”

I wish I could recommend Hotel Casa Antigua, but I cannot. The public spaces of the hotel are charming, but close inspection reveals that the hotel is sadly run down and in need of repair. My room was more like a cell with a 1 x 2 foot window that opened into the main hall; until late at night, the staff pushed various things down the hall making a lot of noise. The bathroom was OK except is was next to the bathroom for the public areas and every time the public bathroom was used, the noise was a problem. Towels and sheets were threadbare. I cannot believe anyone could use that room if it had been hot. Part of the staff is sullen and the night staff was delightful. They did a good and inexpensive job of washing and drying my clothes--much better and cheaper than the same service in one of the top Guatemala City hotels. I suspect that there are much better hotels in the area. The hotel has potential, but has gone over the line between run down and charming and into the area of seedy.
