As an Elite Plus Member I carefully select hotels from the VIP Program, to have all the benefits, and this place is the best example that the program works. I was recognized since the very beginning.all the staff is extremely great to say the least. the location is perfect. The rooms super comfortable. Overall I left with an excellent taste.

Best of the places I saw in Antigua

Posted May 14, 2014
Pros: Great rooms, nice pool, beautiful property.
Location: Few blocks from the central square and on the same street (with the arch) with a number of bars and restaurants.
The Porta is a beautiful facility with a great pool, close to the central square of Antigua. I was in one of the 500 rooms, which had an AC. I'm not sure all the rooms had AC, so you may want to specify. The staff was helpful, the breakfast -- which was complimentary every day but Sunday (for some reason) was excellent.

The hotel was beautiful but the rest disappointing

Posted Apr 14, 2014
Pros: The grounds and pool were beautiful.
Cons: The friendliness of the staff addressing each guest.
Location: Antigua was beautiful and our hotel was centrally located.
We confirmed a pick up from the airport which we agreed to pay $50.00 US but no one showed up to pick us up. The hotel apologized but it was very disappointing. The front desk staff never said hello or good morning as each guest would approach the lobby. We were told there were hair dryers in each room we asked for one after the first day and never received one in a 7 night stay. Most of the staff could not speak English which made it difficult to communicate. The front desk never had enough change to break larger bills. The amount we paid for this hotel it was disappointing our room was located on a corner of two streets, extremely noisy all night long.

Nice hotel to stay and relax in Antigua, Guatamala

Posted Mar 17, 2014
Cons: 1. Staff speak more English 2. A mini fridge in every room 3. Spa treatment prices should be lower 4. With such room rates, it should include wifi
During my stay, the hotel staff was very helpful and wonderful. I absolutely love the garden, sauna and steam room there. Everything is neat and beautiful. My room wasn't too big but very clean and comfortable. The foods I didn't try but will do next time. It was really a pleasant stay.

Lovely hotel in Colonial Antigua

Posted Feb 13, 2014
Pros: location was great - very easy to walk into town.
Cons: Let the parrots fly Keep the food hot
Location: loads and loads and loads very well placed
We stayed here for 7 nights. I think if we had stayed a shorter time, we might have liked it more. The hotel has 3 distinct accommodation blocks - one around the pool/ restaurant, one around a courtyard, and another around a small pool. We were in the block around the courtyard and had a lovely quiet room which opened out onto a small patio with tables and chairs. We used this space a lot - for reading, for chillaxing mornings, and for an occasional drink. It was very private. Accommodation on the pool side looked noisier. Groups came and went - conference groups - mostly from the USA. The pool was nice - but not very private - great eye candy fodder for those in the bar and restaurant. Food was ok - but main courses served cold on more than one occasion - as if prepared at same time as starter. Tours arranged by the hotel were crazy prices - we did the same tour for 8 times less than the hotel by booking in town. Our room was nice - but dark. The hotel asked specifically about its work on sustainable development in the evaluation - they had 4 parrots in teh garden - they looked spectacular - but a few days into our stay we realised they didn't fly. Their wings had been cut to keep them in the hotel. I found this distateful.

Lovely stay, lovely city.

We had an amazing time at la porta hotel Antgua. It was in close proximity to everything and had nothing but an amazing experience. The pool was clean, staff was amazing, and the room was extremely comfortable. One slight downside was that we had the parrots living directly outside our room, so each morning we would wake up to the loud, unflattering noises that they make. So if I could recommend anything it would simply to be asked to be far enough away from them so they don't wake you up. Overall will stay here again when I return to Antigua!!
