“Great overnight enroute to Galapagos Islands”

We were met at the airport and escorted to the Hotel Continental - transfer was courteous, fast , very painless and included in the cost of our room. Check in was easy and no surprises. Room was clean and quiet, and looked out over a small park. There was no hint of smoke odor in our non-smoking room, but there were two ash trays in the room? Bathroom was clean and well supplied with toiletry items. We enjoyed their excellent buffet breakfast, which was also included. One thing did bother us - the hotel didn't respond to our e-mail in which we sent arrival flight information. We called expedia and got confirmation that way, avoiding cost of international phone call. So overall, excellent!

“Nice Hotel for business trips”

This hotel is a good option when traveling to Guayaquil for business trips. It have a convenient location and is near the Malecon 2000 to take a walk .

“A great place to stay in Guayaquil!”

The stay at the chotel was wonderful. The receptioninst, concierge, etc where very friendly and polite. All requests and questions were answered right away on a very proffesional matter. The entire place is very, very clean and tidy. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anybody traveling to or through Guayaquil. The only negative aspects were that if you stay in the room with children, their breakfast is not included in the rate. Also, do take in to consideration that their beds in a double room are SINGLE. And their transfer airport-hotel-airport is done in a small sedan, not the usual hotel van or mini-bus, so if you have a lot of luggage they have to make arrangements to send more than one car to pick you up.

“A total surprize and delight.”

I was extrememely satisfied ith my stay at Hotel Continental, although I did have to use some of my own ingenuity to stay on budget. I found the prices in the restaurant very expensive ($2.50 cup of coffee) for example. I found a nearby place, "La Palma", where I could find my breakfast and coffee inexpensively (two of us for under $5). The only real problem I had with the hotel was with their guest policy. Once a friend visited and became the official registered guest, no one else was allowed to visit even for a minute. I found this policy unnecessarily restrictive. The hotel's location is ideal, with the famous "iguana park" right across the street, along with the most stunning cathedral I have ever seen. The river front and it's impressive Malecon are but a few short blocks away. Again, I was delighted and impressed with the hotel and with Guayaquil.

“Guayaquil hotel”

Clean rooms, reasonable prices. Excellent restaurants, superb breakfast buffet is included in room rates. The sit-down restaurant was spectacular, and prices for quality were quite reasonable. only minor glitch- the website says airport transfers are included, but this apparently is not their norm. You must arrange it with the hotel. We stayed at this hotel on 2 separate occasions. We were met as arranged the first time, but we were not picked up on the second visit. It is also somewhat further from the airport than I had expected. That being said, it's a good value and again has wonderful restaurants. Recommended.

“Nice and comfortable”

I arrived at 3am for a quick sleep between flights and was pleased by the general status of the hotel.

“Three nights: two good, one not-so-good”

I was there twice - at the beginning of a tour for two days and then at the end for one day. The first experience was excellent. Everything in the room worked. The attached restaurant had a killer breakfast buffet that was included in the room rate, although that might not be true for future reservations in 2012. Their other meals were quite good. The hotel is situated just a few blocks from the Malecon, a long boardwalk on the river. On the second visit, I was in a different room and unfortunately there were a bunch of things not right with it, some trivial but annoying, and one significant. Here is a list: no pen in the desk, a desk drawer that didn't open, the window shade mechanism was partially jammed, the bathroom faucets were labeled backwards, and most importantly, the air conditioning FAN switch that turns off the strong fan was broken and I fixed it by prying open the thermostat! Still, I managed.

“Inconsistent, Not always friendly and helpful”

I stayed at this hotel twice, 7 days apart. The first time, the staff was helpful and caring. The second time, the staff at the desk were not helpful and behaved as if I was bothering them. The exception to this was the bellboys--they were all great!

“First night in Ecuador”

The hotel had someone pick us up at the airport because the flight from the US did not arrive until midnight. While it was comforting that someone was there to take us to the hotel, the person meeting us was rude, pointed us to a taxi and we were a bit concerned about our safety. The personnel at the check in were very abrupt, all they did was demand our passports, wrote down some stuff and handed us the key without even recording what room we were staying in. Because it was our first night in Ecuador and we don't speak spanish well, it was difficult to find out what our room was. When we finallly got to our room 1.5 hours after landing in Guayaquil, we found the room to be very cold (about 19 C) with the air conditioner running and a note on the AC unit controls which (when translated) indicated we must contact someone at the front desk to change the temperature. We were tired, nervous about the first night in Ecuador and now we were cold. We put on coats and tried to make the best of it all. I would not recommend hotel Continental to anyone.
