“Luxury in Guilin”
My wife and I went to Guilin for business and leisure. She is Chinese and I have lived in China in before, so we are quite familiar with all levels of Chinese hotels. We have stayed at Chinese rated 5 star hotels, and had been to other Shangri La's for events, dinner, drinks, etc.
The property is located within Guilin proper, which is convenient for walking. However, Guilin is a smaller Chinese town, and while very nice and pleasant by Chinese standards, it can seem a little down by western standards.
The hotel however, is an oasis. The service was impeccable from valet to management and all points in between. Even though we didn't need it, everyone spoke English, including the maids. Everyone greeted us with a smile and a welcome, and no request was too great. Truly 5 star service I had not seen in China.
The food was excellent and still genuine to the region. The piped in music was Chinese, but not overwhelming and of great variety. The facilities are outstanding with everything a 5 star can offer. The rooms are more than spacious, super clean and well equipped. All of this for a very reasonable price range, even in China.
If you are on a journey through China to several cities, take a break, pamper yourself, and stay at the Shangri La in Guilin. After all the great hikes and walks you will take in the surrounding mountains, returning back to this hotel at the end of the day will be a welcomed relief.
